Dear KWIC members and friends,

Thanks to everyone who helped support our fundraising activities during
the Peterborough Re-Frame Film Festival! It was a great weekend of
films, food, and fun. We greatly appreciate all your hard work and
support!

Please find details below for KWIC and community sponsored events
happening this month!

Be sure to check out the Just Work? Vulnerabilities in a Global
Workforce: 3rd annual Community Movements Conference THIS weekend. For
workshop, speaker and registration info please visit
www.communitymovementsconference.com. Keynote addresses are open and
free events.

Peterborough's annual One World Dinner is Saturday on Feb. 6th with
guest speaker Chet Singh on A Spin on Food. Tickets at the door.
Suggested $10/family or $5/person. Live music, dessert auction and
raffle! All proceeds support KWIC, Jamaica Self-Help, Trent
International Student Association and New Canadians Centre.

If you have some time to share at the dinner and can volunteer to help
sell raffle tickets or assist in the child friendly space, contact
kw...@trentu.ca before Friday 12pm or let greeters know at the door.

February is Black History Month Activities begin February 5th at the
Market Hall with Mutabaruka Live from Jamaica! and wrap-up the weekend
of February 28th with the International Dub Poet Festival right here in
Peterborough! Watch for event details!

7. International Dub Poet Festival: Feb 25th-28th. Join KWIC on Sunday
Feb 28th for storytelling, readings, and a theatrical production at the
Peterborough Public Library

● Sat, March 13th is Peterborough’s Annual Seed Exchange! 1-4pm
at St. James United Church. Get ready to start thinking about gardening
season!
● Mon, March 8th KWIC will be hosting an International Women’s
Day Pot Luck Celebration at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church. This is an
all ages event with dancing and story-telling with elder Shirley
Williams. Stay posted for more info.


February Event Details:

1. Annual One World Dinner Community Potluck. Shake off those February
blues and join in the world's 'largest vegetarian potluck' with live
music, entertainment, dessert auction, raffle and dance. Theme: A Spin
on Food with Chet Singh and Jarret. Everyone brings a vegetarian dish to
share (no desserts please) and your own dish pack. Tickets at the door.
Suggested:$10/family. $5/person. Doors open at 5:30 pm at St. Paul's
Presbyterian Church (corner of Murray and Water). Program is at 6pm.

2. Black History Month Dance. Feb 5th at Market Hall. Headlining the
show is Jamaica's revolutionary Dub Poet: Mutabaruka. Come dance to some
reggae and soca vibes by Mixed Emotions (Toronto’s best live reggae),
and The Resolutionaries Marimba Band (local Zimbabwean fusion). Tickets
now available at Bluestreak, Flavour, Karma’s, Haveyouseen, TCSA
office, TISA. $15 students, $20 regular admission.

3. Transition Reskilling Institute: Winter 2010 Courses. Sponsored by

Public Library. Each showing is $5, or pay what you can.

traditional teachings, Sunrise Ceremonies, workshops, and guest
speakers.

6. Young Decision Makers Network Conference (Toronto): Feb 11th -14th
This four day event is being put together by a group of youth, young
adults and adult allies from across
Canada working together to ensure that we, as a nation, are moving
towards developing truly inclusive and accountable youth decision-making

7. International Dub Poetry Festival Peterborough 2010: Feb 25th-28th.
A Peterborough Black History Month Event exploring dub poetry in the
context of postcolonial society and neoliberal ideologies. Workshop
themes explore issues of human rights, environment, diverse communities.
Free panels and workshops with great evening activities featuring local
and visiting artists. Visit www.kwic.info for details.

Join us for a free Community Event: Sunday, February 28th from 2:30-5pm
at the Peterborough Public Library for storytelling with J. Nicols,
readings with Afua Cooper from her new books, My Name is Phillis
Wheatley and My Name is Henry Bibb, and a live community performance of
Beaux Dixon’s play, Other People’s Heaven, produced and performed by
Firebrand Theatre (www.firebrandtheatre.com). The event is free and
everyone is welcome!
Please note: Parent discretion is advised for children under 10 years
of age due to mature content. The library will be open upstairs from 2pm
to 5pm.
