just a reminder that the International Dub Poetry Festival Peterborough 2010 kicks off this Thursday, February 25th! Occurring over four days, this gathering will bring together poets, performers, musicians, academics and community activists to focus on healing and strategies to further equity, justice and sustainability. "From Camp to Campus:* Stories of children Refugees in Africa and Canada's
role in providing education opportunities for refugee students". With Guest Speakers: Michele Manks - Program Officer of the Student Refugee Program for WUSC, and McAnthony Keah - Author of "Growing up Naked: the untold stories of children at war". Refreshments will be provided. Don’t miss this insightful event held in the LEC Pit at Trent University.
3. Open Stage Coffee House: A Fundraising Event for the Unitarian Fellowship of Peterborough
Saturday, Feb. 27th, 2010 at 775 Weller Street. Come out & enjoy an evening together. Everyone one welcome. Suggested donation: $10/adult; $2/child
4. Amnesty International Group 46 is hosting is annual fundraising dinner on Sunday, February 28th at Grace United Church. Come for a drink and an appetizer at 6p.m for dinner at 6:30. The theme this year is the right to food with speaker is Haroon Akram-Lodhi from Trent University. Tickets are $25 (or $15 for students or unwaged) and are available from Titles Book Store. Chef Daniel Plouffe is again preparing the meal and there will be a Silent Auction.
