Dear KWIC members and friends,

Please find details below for KWIC and community sponsored events
happening this month!
If you’d like to find out more about KWIC activities or volunteer
opportunities, why not come out to the KWIC Open House on January 14th
between 11am to 2pm?

Invitation to Volunteer: During the ReFrame Film Festival Jan 29 to 31,
KWIC is hosting a 10 000 Villages- Zatoun table at the Show Place
Bazaar, as well as a baked good/fair trade coffee table at the Market
Hall. Proceeds from the bake table will support KWIC Youth Engagement
activities.

We are looking for sellers and bakers! If you have some time to share,
please let us know at kw...@trentu.ca and we will put you to good work.
Or just drop by and say hello.

One World Dinner: KWIC is looking also for volunteers to help out at
the 2010 One World Dinner: A Spin on Food - on Saturday, Feb. 6th! This
community potluck dinner is a fundraising activity for KWIC, Jamaica
Self-Help, New Canadians Centre and Trent International Student
Association.

January 22nd or 23rd: Free Popular Theatre Workshop for KWIC volunteers
- Suggested $25/person for others.
Inclusive. Innovative. Fun. Come learn hands-on how to facilitate
popular theatre exercises for group
visioning, peace building and conflict transformation. Gain the tools
to facilitate popular theatre with your community/group/classes.

This participatory 3 hour workshop is for teachers/educators, students,
community workers, health practitioners, counsellors, social service
organizations, youth workers, activists & artists. www.iftheatre.ca

No previous theatre experience required!
Workshop Times: Friday, Jan 22nd: 1:30 pm to 4:30pm or Saturday, Jan
23rd: 10 am to 1 pm
Sadleir House Cost: $25/person (Not to be a barrier to

January Event Details:

January 8th: Hello ReFrame Supporters and Film Lovers!!
We would like to invite you to our festival launch party at the Art
Gallery of Peterborough (AGP) this Friday, January 8 at 7 pm. ReFrame

Peterborough International Film Festival--your go to guide to the
latest provocative films--will take place January 29-31. We will begin

at the AGP with an art exhibition of photo-based work exploring the
theme of representation, distortion and the body by students, working

with Micky Renders, at Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School. Micky was
the creative spirit behind last year's Tents for Darfur. The
Body: IMAGES exhibition is part of Still ReFrame, our visual arts
programming. It is also part of the AGP's current programming along
with the opening of the main exhibition Ladies Sasquatch: Allyson
Mitchell.

If you feel inspired by the opening please feel free to take a
workshop with Micky as part of ReFrame's art experiences programming.

You can explore photo-based representation with Micky on Saturday
January 30 from 1-5 pm at the AGP. To register email Wanda at

On top of photography and fun fur, this Friday you can get the first
view of ReFrame Festival's new trailer made by Peterborough's own
genius with a camera, Lester Alfonso.

ReFrame - Peterborough International Film Festival

Now in its sixth year, this successful, locally organized community
festival presents three days of outstanding documentary films that
celebrate life and human dignity. Over 60 films from local, Canadian

and international film-makers will explore issues dealing with
diversity,
environment and international issues. From uranium mining in
Haliburton, mental
health crisis work in Toronto, Inuit relocation in the Arctic to the
first female soccer
match in the history of Iran, ReFrame offers opportunities to explore

the world. Passes are $30 for adults, $15 for students/underwaged
(but students can see a single film for a donation).

Regional Youth Conference: The Young Decision Makers (YDM) Network
would like
to invite you to their national meeting this upcoming February! This
four day event is being put
together by a group of youth, young adults and adult allies from across
Canada working together
to ensure that we, as a nation, are moving towards developing truly
inclusive and accountable
youth decision-making opportunities.

Since the fall, we've been meeting on Monday nights through conference
calls
and emails, and have identified the following objectives for this
conference. We want:
-> more Canadians to learn about the YDM model and how to use it in
their
communities, organizations and projects
-> to walk through the model several times by working through youth
issues
as identified by you and other participants.
-> to create space for individuals and organizations to share their
experiences, expertise and ideas!
-> to have “open spaces” for you, the participant, to host your own
workshop
and share your knowledge and skills with us.

NATIVE AND NON-NATIVE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR OPERATION BEAVER PROGRAM
Frontiers Foundation is looking for people willing to help
build/renovate,
safe, warm homes in partnership with northern Quebec, Ontario and
Manitoba
mainly aboriginal families. If you have construction experience, share
it
with those who want to train on site. All travel, accommodation and
food
expenses plus volunteer allowances are provided. Meaningful volunteer
work
producing enduring good news for and with our fellow Canadians. Three
month
commitment preferable, but negotiable.
