On World Food Day, we call on Canada to unfreeze aid

October 16th is World Food Day, and one billion people continue to suffer from chronic hunger and malnutrition worldwide.  This is more than the populations of Canada, the USA and all of Europe combined.

Oxfam is pleased that Canada has made food security a priority area for its aid program.  To eradicate poverty and reduce hunger, Canada would do well to focus its aid on supporting small-scale women farmers.  It is women farmers who are the key to feeding families and communities.
Last spring Finance Minister Jim Flaherty announced a five-year freeze on Canada’s aid budget.  This decision goes counter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s recent promise to the United Nations that Canada would honour its commitments to the world poor.
Pease take action today. We want the Canadian government to follow through on its commitments to the world’s poor. Demand Canada take the freeze off our national aid budget.

Please click here to send a message to Mr. Flaherty today!

Sincerely,
Audra Williams
