Hello Food Action Team Members! We hope you enjoyed a wonderful summer season. Before we fully step into fall, we wanted to pause and celebrate the success of last month’s Edible Garden Tour — a true community effort that brought neighbors together to learn, connect, and be inspired.
On August 14th, the Food Action Team hosted its 12th Edible Garden Tour — and what a beautiful evening it was! With perfect late-summer weather, abundant plants at their peak, and more than 100 neighbors joining in, the tour was filled with conversation, inspiration, and plenty of ideas to take home.
This year, seven generous hosts opened their gardens to the community. Each space offered something unique: thriving vegetable beds, creative solutions for deer control, examples of companion planting, and thoughtful approaches to garden design. As one host shared, “There was a steady stream of visitors all evening — it was exhausting but fun. The timing was perfect.” Another noted how valuable it was to exchange ideas and answer plant-identification questions with curious guests.
Greeters and volunteers also played a key role, welcoming visitors, sharing garden guides, and helping the evening run smoothly. One greeter reflected, “People really want to learn something, in addition to touring beautiful gardens.”
Most importantly, the event reminded us what makes this tour so special: community. Neighbors learning from one another, hosts generously sharing their time and expertise, and guests leaving inspired to try something new in their own backyards.
A huge thank you to our hosts, greeters, volunteers, and everyone who attended — your energy and enthusiasm are what keep the Edible Garden Tour growing year after year.
