HB3018 - Food Waste Bill Public Hearing today

Hi foodies, 

The Corvallis Sustainability Coalition doesn't lobby or promote specific political positions, but here is some information about a relevant state of Oregon bill working its way through committee. 

The hearing on HB3018 "Relating to Food Waste" was held today, next steps are not yet released. If you are interested in following this bill you can "e-subscribe" to get notifications about updates. 

The short description of this bill is:

This Act makes new laws to prevent and dispose of food waste.

• Requires entities that cook, assemble, process, serve or sell food to recover and dispose of food waste as specified in the Act.
• Directs the Department of Environmental Quality to establish a program to educate entities on food waste separation and disposal requirements.  
• Modifies food date labeling laws to require foods packaged with a date label to use uniform terms.  

I realize the waste prevention action team is more involved with food waste, but I thought some of you may also be interested!
