Daytrippers can enjoy longer visits to Blaenau Ffestiniog this year after a new timetable on a heritage railway was released. Previously passengers travelling to the town had about 45 minutes there before their return train left - now the gap is up to four hours.
The Welsh Highland' a narrow gauge railway, runs from Waunfawr to Caernarfon or in the other direction to Beddgelert and Porthmadoc. The station for the Welsh Hiighland is situated next to the Snowdonia Park Inn in the village which is an award winning micro brewery which also serves hot and cold food and is child and dog friendly with a beer garden.
The village of Llanberis is an 8 mile drive away for walks up Snowdon unless you prefer to catch the narrow gauge train up to the summit. The Snowdon Railway usually opens after the winter months mid March running to Clogwyn 3/4 up the mountain, then to the summit 1st May, weather permitting. 2017: May 2017 saw the second 'Quirks & Curiosities' gala featuring a collection of unusual visiting locomotives, primarily based around Minffordd, the railway ran an intense timetable including a triple headed service featuring visiting locomotive 'Diana', 'Lilla' and 'Britomart'. The weekend saw passenger, vintage and gravity trains. The Welsh Highland Railway held their annual 'Superpower' weekend in September, including Double Fairlie 'Earl Of Merioneth' travelling to Caernarfon, one of the final times prior to been withdrawn from service.
