Muftah is looking for interns in social media/PR and graphic design/multimedia. If you join our team, you’ll be part of growing the publication by contributing valued insight while working on an international scale, and also have the opportunity to write for the publication, as long as this does not conflict with your other responsibilities. Both internships are unpaid, as the magazine itself is run by volunteers.
While being located in Washington D.C. is a plus, you’ll primarily be working remotely so you’ll need a functioning computer and Internet access, including on a mobile device.

Social Media and PR Intern
Position:
Are you ambitious, detail-oriented, and creative? As the PR and social media intern, you’ll work closely on the magazine’s social media accounts and outreach efforts, including:
- Contributing ideas for publicizing articles on social media
- Brainstorming creative content for social media channels
- Creating, growing, and engaging a community of online supporters who are invested in the magazine
- Helping curate weekly newsletters
- Maintaining statistics on digital communications outcomes
- Monitoring and reporting weekly on trends in social media tools and applications
What we are looking for:
This position role is best suited for students pursuing a degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, or similar fields of study. We are looking for a commitment of 10-15 hours per week for the fall semester, with the possibility of extension through the spring semester.
Skills/background that are necessary:
- Knowledge of Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, especially for brands or news/media
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Flexible, able to work efficiently under deadlines, communicates well
Skills/background you’ll get bonus points for:
- Knowledge of Hootsuite, Tweetdeck, Wordpress, MailChimp, Google Analytics
- Knowledge of or interest in the Arab world and global issues

Position:
Are you self-starting, ambitious, and creative? Do you know the difference between MOV vs MP4 files, 16x9 vs 4x3, HD vs SD, and 24p vs 60i? As Muftah’s graphic design and multimedia intern, you’ll take a lead role in developing our video, podcast, and visual data arms.
What we are looking for:
This position is best suited for students studying graphic design, multimedia, audio/visual, web development, or similar. The candidate should understand good graphic design principles and have an eye for selecting images, be familiar with various video formats, codecs, and compressing schemes. We are looking for a commitment of 10-15 hours per week for the fall semester, with the possibility of extension through the spring semester.
Skills/background that are necessary:
- Knowledge of Final Cut Pro to perform basic edits and exports
- Comfortable using Photoshop to crop, color correct, layer, and work with text
- Flexible, works efficiently under deadlines, and communicates well
Skills/background you’ll get bonus points for:
- Working knowledge of FTP programs and basic HTML
- Working knowledge of WordPress
- Knowledge of or interest in the Arab world and global issues
