Hey, does anyone know how to do this?

I have delineated my FB friends into "lists";  for example, some geographically, where I know them from , our mutual connections, folks from different times in my life, H.S., College, business connections, etc.

But now that I have these great lists and did the work to sub-group them, I find it almost impossible to send a message to these subgroups.

Does anyone know how to send a message to a certain list you've created in FB?

When I click on "new message", all that comes up is a huge left hand column of all my hundreds of "friends".  If I try to type in a word describing the list, it thinks that's a name of a person. So that method doesn't work.  and some of these lists are quite large, so I can't go thru the hundreds of names to check off my individual list names.

Some folks have suggested creating a group, but when you create a group and add people, you are adding them without their permission.  I find that people don't always want to hear that you've automatically added them to a group.  A Group is different, in that there are dynamics back and forth once someone starts posting something.  It's a two way street as opposed to a message going out one way.  It's really not quite the right answer to this.

(This would be a great FA conference workshop:  'specific  "How-Tos'" in Facebook' :)

Thanks.

I second the motion to request a FAI workshop on updated Facebook use. Is there anyone who has time to keep up with the constant “ins and outs”?

Thanks,

Cheryl

I wonder if an actual representative sent by Facebook could be pursuaded to come and make a presentation.  Would a professional conference of 1500 attendees be big enough to interest them?

There are many independent consultants who specialize in Facebook marketing who could do a workshop. I've done them locally for musicians. But no, I doubt that Facebook itself would send someone,  and if they did they would focus on paid posts.

To answer Robin's question, you can target your posts to the lists you've created,  which is a great thing to do. But no, you can't use those lists for sending messages.

I find that people get to focused on the need to send messages when that's not really the beauty of Facebook. We're used to the email world so we want to use the same approach with Facebook.

It's better to use Facebook in the context it's meant for... send engaging posts into the news feed and engage with other people. Targeting those posts will give you better results.

And don't abandon email. It's still how most people get their information.

In regard to the subject of paid posts, have any of you seen this video that addresses that subject?  It’s very informative, to say the least.

But many of those independent consultants admit to not knowing all the ins and outs of how Facebook works.  They have a better idea, because they work with it daily.  But it would be better if we could actually get the horse's mouth to come and talk to us.
