IMHO, that is PRECISELY what Facebook was designed for. Or if not
conciously designed that way, that's precisely the way it works. Facebook
is designed to serve the garrulous, sociable kind of person who talks to
strangers in bars and commuter trains, and enjoys that sort of random social
interaction. It was never designed as a vehicle for targeted messages. And
trying to use it as such is, as Robin pointed out, is a waste of valuable
time.

But Mike is also right... both Twitter and Facebook pander to those so starved for social interaction they are willing to post up "I just had the most delicious bologna sandwich" as if endless throngs of us awaited that news...

Actually, Madlyn was one of those experts who fully confessed ignorance on much of the the methods and procedures behind FB. I attended her workshop at NERFA, and had her do a little work for me personally.
