Bas,

I noticed you tried to fix this page:

http://fahwiki.net/index.php/RestrictedService

What should be the delimiters here:?

â?????text-only console clientâ???

I figure they're characters in an unknown/unsupported encoding.

Maybe UTF-8/Unicode characters.

They were already on the page when I editted it.

I thought that my system might not support the characters, it being a
Linux system whereas the editor of the page probably used Windows. And
that the encoding would be properly handled by the system and/or
database.

I thought so because of the problem when people post text to the some
page on the Internet with the Windows "Magic quotes" (the double
quotes which are not shaped vertically, but slightly diagonally, the
opening quote leaning to the left, and the closing to the right).

I'm trying to figure out what the original text should be now too.

[...time passes...]

OK, I found a few patterns in the unrecognized characters, and fixed
them. I think my hunch about the magic quotes is not very far of.

?
is probably the double quote character: "

?
is probably the single quote character: '

is a Unicode <control> character which cannot be displayed.

The fixed content is on the wiki now.

Sorry I didn't fix this immediately, my mind is not very clear this
week due to an antibiotics treatment I'm having. But that's no excuse
to not communicate my suspicion to find out if it effected others, or
was only my problem.

Bas

I knew that. I just though you tried to fix and couldn't and perhaps I
could do something.

Congratulations!

No problem. That is a Wiki. Take the initiative and if does not work
just revert it.

Just for your information the database *now* in version 1.7 is utf-8
encoded. So it will accept almost anything.

I was actually fixing broken links by following the links in the
"Wanted pages" special page.
Since I assumed it was a problem on my side, I didn't think much further.

That makes me feel better, although I can't stand myself when I
deliver sloppy work.

That's good to know, thanks.
I'll be home for a couple more days because of my medical treatment,
and I'll see if I can use that time to fix some more issues in the
wiki. But I'll make sure to check my work better :-)
