THE BRIDGE AND THE AXE
One day a hunter was caught in a storm at the middle of the forest. When the rains subsided, he decided to return to his house. However, to his dismay, he found out that the bridge leading to his house had been destroyed by the storm. With no one to turn to but God, the hunter prayed, “Lord, please give me a bridge.”
Just after a minute, an angel holding an axe flew towards him and gave him the axe.
“Angel,” the hunter protested, “there must be a mistake. I prayed for a bridge, not an axe. What shall I do with an axe?”
“God can easily give you a bridge if he wants to,” the angel answered. “But then God does not desire to spoil you. He is giving you this axe so you can cut wood and build a bridge for yourself.”
With that the angel left.

MONEY
An over-zealous preacher rebuked the people in his homily, “You rich people, why do you love your wealth so much?” They are worthless! Before God, money and dung are one and the same!”
After the Mass, a rich benefactor of the parish went to the priest to give her monthly donation. The priest welcomed her with great joy, since the woman was known to be generous. Her servant carried five sacks filled with something and brought it at the foot of the preacher.
“What are these?” the preacher asked.
“My donation,” the woman replied.
The priest opened the sacks eagerly. He supposed that they would be filled with money. Instead, to his dismay and surprise, the sacks contained nothing but horse dung.
The priest asked, “I thought you said this is your donation. How come
these sacks contained nothing but dung?”
“I might as well give you dung for my donation,” the woman answered.
“You said in your homily that money and dung are one and the same.”
