I just uploaded b15:

This should install correctly. It includes all the fixes and changes from b12-b14.

Note that with b12 I occasionally saw a problem where the app would start with no page. I have been unable to reproduce it. If you run into this, let me know, and I will get a fix posted ASAP.

Thanks.

Ok, it works. What were the changes from b11 to b12?

b12 changes:
  • Repagination does not cause tasks to be placed on deleted pages
  • Deleting pages from web and then syncing no longer causes stray blank pages to show in iPhone app

Hmm... it still won't sync for me, I think... :-/
Pressed sync a few times, restarted the program a few times, but the web app still shows my very old tasks... :(

I found a new bug (at least I think it is one).  I think it is caused by the introduction of the task status preservation.

Prior to this feature enhancement, on a task that was already marked complete (check-marked) I could click the check-plus (✓+) button to add a duplicate of the task in a uncompleted state.  However, now the duplicate is kept in a completed state.

Tijl,

I will look in the logs. I suspected there might be additional syncing problems for you.

Hi Tijl.

You have over 2700 items to sync. The system cannot get it done fast enough, so Google eventually times out the request. This is a huge problem with syncing that I need to fix.

Since you have started to use paper temporarily, this might be a good time to remove FocusPad in order to clear out the data, and then re-install it and re-enter your tasks. You will also have to go to the web app and issue this URL to clear out the data there.

[WARNING TO OTHER USERS: this URL will remove all of your data from the web app.]

If this is not acceptable or is too depressing to contemplate, I can work with you to get the data over to the web site so future syncs go more quickly. Or perhaps I can help you prune old tasks.

I don't mind getting rid of everything to be honest. It might be a good idea now that I moved to paper for the moment. I can use the .xml file you sent me some time ago to access any tasks that I don't want to be lost. I agree though that it is a problem that needs to be fixed. Sure, I used FocusPad quite extensively at times and for quite some time, but I would be surprised if I would be an exceptionally heavy AFx user. I'm sure there are people who have way more tasks (whether it is on paper or some electronic implementation) than I do. Even Mark himself had A LOT of tasks during his one-day AF4 demonstration a long time ago. And that was only one day... Multiply that by 365 and you've got a hell of a lot of tasks.

I'll try it out.
Tijl

So yeah...

Yes, I agree, this is important to fix. And the fix is straightforward: I need to do the sync using Google App Engine's background task queue. I will do this soon. It will also make import/export more reliable.
