LIBERAL DEMOCRAT PROSPECTIVE MP FOR THE COMMUNITIES OF BRENTFORD, CHISWICK, GUNNERSBURY, HOUNSLOW, ISLEWORTH & OSTERLEY Local, Hard-working and Green.
Dear Friend,
It has been a busy few weeks since I launched my campaign. Last week, working together with actress Susan Penhaligon and other campaigners, we successfully secured a commitment live on BBC Radio London that the Port of London Authority will review the arrangements for licensing residential moorings. A week earlier we’d had the frustration of Hounslow’s minority Tory administration ducking the opportunity to commit the £8.2m investment needed in Gunnersbury park, mansions and local history museum. The battle to protect our local heritage goes on, so please continue to encourage your friends to sign the petition.
This weekend many of you will have heard Vince Cable set out the Liberal Democrats’ plans for the future of the British economy and Nick Clegg explain our wider priorities, and how we will respond if there is a hung parliament. What is clear to me is that the Liberal Democrats would approach a hung parliament responsibly and constructively – and more consensus politics would be a healthy outcome for both our democracy and nation.
Ahead of the Council budget I set out my proposals to tackle noise and Heathrow’s expansion by stealth by bringing back the Cranford Agreement (axed by Labour in January 2009) through a private bill. For the detail read the full report I have published, or for a summary watch this short video, where I explain the proposals further and share it with your friends:
Last week our incumbent Labour MP was finally directed to pay back some expenses. The week before it became clear that Lord Ashcroft, who is backing the Tories’ campaign in this constituency, has been sitting for the last 10 years in the British parliament, voting on British laws and British public spending whilst as a non-dom he has not been paying full British tax – unlike the other 60 million of us. This is yet more evidence of an unjust, broken political system and the need for substantial reform.
Thank you to all of you that have already made donations to the campaign. To be a part of our grassroots fight please volunteer or make a donation to the campaign. It is now even easier to donate as we have a PayPal account or the option of making a direct online payment. We need to raise £25,000 in the next few weeks to win the seat.
If you send me to Parliament I will continue to fight nationally against a third runway, as well as to bring back the Cranford Agreement through a private bill. Please help me make this happen.
Yours sincerely,
P.S. Please forward this campaign update on to friends and neighbours in West London. Whatever their political views it will ensure they can make an informed decision on election day.
