After this weeks outage, we have had a long and productive discussion
today on the best way of taking foaf.me forward.
As a result, I have decided, at this time, to step down as the lead
maintainer of the foaf.me domain.
The domain will remain in the capable hands of Akbar (cc'd), who not
only has contributed to a great deal of the back end, but also has run
the server, and managed the domain from it's inception.
I will still continue my role as a developer on the project and will
maintain my version of the code on github [1], which everyone is
encouraged to fork and run on their own server. I will introduce
patches as appropriate. But WebID, indeed FOAF, was always intended
as a distributed and interoperable identity system, so the more nodes
that run, the better.
It has been a great experience for me helping to build this domain,
building code, seeing things work, and above all working with a first
class, intelligent and considerate community. I cant tell you how
much of a pleasure it has been to interact with you all, and it is my
great desire for that to continue for a long long time.
I hope you will join me in wishing Akbar the best of luck continuing
to host a great domain!
Thanks
Melvin
