Greetings, fellow FNBers!
I have a question and a request, both of which follow below. But first, here's a list of the volunteers signed up to coordinate in the coming weeks:
Sept. 23rd: ?
Sept. 30th: Allie
Oct. 7th: Allie
Oct. 14th: ?
Oct. 21st: ?
Oct. 28th: ?
Nov. 4th: ?
Yikes--what gives? Even if I've forgotten one or two folks--and I probably have--we still need coordinators. (Yes, that means you!)
Guys, FNB's survival depends on the goodwill and dedication of all of its volunteers. Without effective coordination--heck, with no proper participation of any kind--we're through. Kaput. Finito. We might as well leave the food to the ants and call ourselves "Freakin' Nerdy Bialys." (At least the ants would appreciate it.)
So, here's my plea--er, request: Get off your freakin' duffs and get with this program! (Pretty please. . . .) Attend the meetings, step up the activism, reach out with the outreach, stay focused, energized, and motivated, and--most importantly--believe in this group and the things it represents. From my own perspective, I see that despite all of our warts, we still offer a vital resource to the community, one that's unique to this area. I encounter many folks who tell me that FNB is a blessing, and I agree: in the past, it was often my only access to nutritious food. And I do like good food.
So please, guys, let's all recommit to keep the Charlottesville FNB as healthy as it can possibly be. Because I'd like to make the ants work a little harder for their supper. And because I like the name "Food Not Bombs" a lot more than the alternative.
Gratefully yours,
Brian
