To All Listmembers,

Check out the newly posted (8/5/09) file on Dr. Wolff's connection
with Theosophy. It is probably the most eloquent defense of Madame
Blavatsky ever written. Makes one wonder whether the "Master"
mentioned in some of his writings refers to one of the traditional
Founders of the TS. After all, Sharifa was a student of Alice Bailey
at one time.

I know the TS connection turns off some posters, so comments,
criticisms, cogent observations are all welcome. Dorene, did he talk
about Theosophy very much when you were associated with him?

In any event, if you are really into this discussion group, you must
read this new file.

Cheers,

RAMHALite

The word Avatar is used to describe an incarnation of Maha Vishnu.
The Bodhisattva doctrine might have developed from the Hindu theory of
Avatars. A Bodhisattva is defined in the Oxford dictionary as a
person who has won through to Nirvana and then abandoned it out of
compassion for suffering humanity. Dr.Wolff definitely fulfills the
qualifications for a Bodhisattva. The only person who can be compared
to him in the Theosophical movement in Jiddu Krishnamurti, prepared by
Annie Besant and Leadbeater, as a vehicle for the Bodhisattva
Maitreya. Dr. Wolff appears to be more intellectual than
Krishnamurti. The mathematical precision of his style, the clarity of
his thought and the range and sweep of his vision are remarkable, not
to say awe-inspiring. I will go further and say that he is the
greatest Bodhisattva of recent times. I have moved for many years
with members of the Theosophical Society, Madras. I have never heard
a single one of them mention Dr.Wolff. Truly this great Knowledge
hides itself. When Ms.Doroethy Leonard's biography of her grandfather
is published, I hope mankind will be brought face to face with the
supreme spiritual master of the twentieth century. I am not stringing
together fine phrases. I am truly convinced of all this.

Thank you for this post. I know very little of Dr. Wolff's
associations or his "life in time", but the more material I seriously
study from other sources, the more profound and comprehensive I find
Wolff's writings (not to mention his Realizations!) to be.....

Thank you!!! A brilliant essay, and one which has really helped
clarify some serious points of contention. It's also pacified a part
of me which has been wrestling with the obfuscating nature of
practically ALL Buddhist teachings! This is a very rich and pithy
piece of writing....

Can you please let me know the date of this document; when exactly
Dr. Wolff wrote this?

I downloaded this document from the FMW Fellowship web site some time
ago. I have no further information beyond what is in the PDF I
posted. I suggest that you ask Dorene (Grandory), who is the one
responsible for the existence of this discussion group. [Thanks again
for setting up this group, Dorene!!] She spent time as a student of
Dr. Wolff's, and may be able to date this important essay.

Also, any lurkers from the Fellowship, feel free to jump in if you
know something.

I assume it is the same, there is a tape made July, 1979 called,
"Theosophy".

Dr. Wolff believed in channeling and yet also saw personality problems
that arose with being on that cusp. He was able to distinguish
authentic material from personal material disguised or confused as
universa, so he didn't get turned away by some of the theatrics.
He did talk about it, however, the part that was most prevalent in
daily life was the Bodhisattva vow.
In his early life he was connected with a group led by the channel
Blue Star that was based in Central California. Maybe we could talk
Doroethy (Dr. Wolff's granddaughter) into posting some excerpts from
her book. She has researched all of this in depth, and could give
much more accurate information than I can.

Theosophy was an early guide and opened doors for him, I would say.
It was not a foundation of his work, however, since he had fundamental
realizations that carried him beyond it.

Franklin wrote a lengthy essay entitled "Is Theosophy Authentic?" in 1965. I
assume that you are referring to this work. For those interested in his (and
Sherifa's) involvement with Theosophy, it is treated in his forthcoming
biography by Doroethy Leonard. The identity of the "Atlantean Sage" is also
revealed...

For those who are more interested in his philosophy, I would suggest my
doctoral thesis on this subject, revised and published by SUNY Press (1999)
entitled, "The Transcendental Philosophy of Franklin Merrell-Wolff."

Hope this helps...
Shine on,
Love and Light,
Ron Leonard
