Hello Group,

Flying Tiger Boats, along with a select partner, is looking at upgrading and re-branding the FT 10. I hope to get some feedback from present owners as to what they would like to see as standard equipment and or upgrades to new builds. We are not considering changing anything dramatically to the boat but would like to see some of the features that you as owners may have changed or upgraded. that could be incorporated into new boats. (all within one design parameters) The goal is to grow the class with new boats and help older models hold their value. Your response is encouraged in this forum or you may contact me directly. Thanks for your consideration.

Tom,
In first pass - address the stuff that came standard previously that did not work so well (which we ended up ditching anyway):
1. Furler - get rid of the ST3, go with a bare headstay or go to a Harken furler (this can be an option)
2. 1:1 main sheet -- boat needs a 2:1
3. The Spinlock XAS jammers are not really up to the task. Lewmars or XTS
4. Soft rigging -- need to go up to 5/16th for all the halyards.
5. Hatch slides
6. Get rid of the soft vang and replace with a decent hard vang
7. Rudder - go away from the cassette/foil system. Re-engineer a one-piece like FT7.5 or go with Betts.
8. Tiller -- love the Betts tiller
9. Partners - that metal collar at the partners - must go - replace with a machined Delrin block system that can be adjusted
10. Better lifelines - 1x19
11. Improved engine slides / door implementation (which may already be better on the latest editions)
12. Spin halyard sheave exit plate
13. Make last step in companion way fit a standard sized ice chest (or esky for our Oz folks)
14. Get rid of the Chinese characters - new logos please
15. Beefier floor boards & compartment hatches - have wood as an option?
16. Sprit tack block attachment -- get rid of the eyebolt which is too stressfull on the CF, use a strop instead.
17. Soft shackle on most of the blocks
18. Move the bensons!!

I like your list Tim... clearly U have suffered a lot of pain.
The Esky is mandatory.
A light weather Max Jib really brings the Tiger to life in very light winds. Neil Pryde made one for us he calls it Max, we call it Maxie...
Also Fractional Halyard for Fractional Kite essential.
A decent locking system for both front and back hatches.
Adjustable jib car system.
Linings in the lockers so our SI's dont get wet and the tools dont get rusty.
Re the Main Halyard exit block its worth integrating a thimble below the block to absorbe the Flogging not that we flog Balmain Tiger much.

I am sure there are more but can't think of yet.

Please Tom make the changes nessessary to allow single point lifting with out the weight on the bow and torque on the keel trunk. I think that would be part of a redesign in the keel/main hatch.

Also build in an attachment point for the bobstay at the knuckle.

See below for additional thoughts

Tom

The following would be good:

1. Single point lifting.

2. Like the rudder cassette system, but needs strengthening and a lighter (floating) rudder blade. Have considered Betts rudder but like to remove rudder when moored.

3. Keel case attachment to hull needs re-engineering (finite element analysis) to offshore spec.

4. Better weight quality control in building. Yachts here varied by up to 200kg when weighed.

5. Outboard retraction system longer slides on hull so motor can be lifted clear of water. We have been in water 6 years last week and outboard lower case needs replacing. Yes we use anodes and appropriate antifouling. Also keep most of the time in boat bag with chlorine added.

I really would love to have carbon hull and deck with the weight saved put into the keel! Would make it an even more super yacht suited to our (heavier) conditions.

Regards

Adrian
