Nancy,
Three drivers, Becky, Jose Luis and I, provided transportation for 10 patients. Two families travelled in their own vehicles, bringing 4 children. Four patients who were on the list did not show up.
HERE ARE THE RESULTS:
TERESA OROZCO CHAVEZ: She was checked with no serious problems identified. She does not need to return in the future unless she needs glasses.
ISIDRO GARCIA IBARRA: He received a post surgery check. No serious problems were identified. He should return in January for glasses.
JOSE SOCORRO ALVAREZ RESENDEZ: He was evaluated by Dr. Castillegos. He received a three month supply of betoptic eye drops for abnormal pressure in his right eye. He must use these as prescribed everyday or he will lose what eyesight he has in his right eye. He has usable sight in his left eye. This medication will not improve his eyesight, only prevent further deterioration. He should return in February for further evaluation.
JUAN ANTONIO VASQUEZ: He was evaluated by Dr. Castillegos. He was prescribed several medications for excessive eye pressure: acetadiazol, tiniolol and xalatan. Dr. C directed him to contact his clinic in TJ where he wants him to receive cyclocryotherapy. Vasquez said he can arrange to go to the clinic. Dr. C will not be in Tecate in January. Vasquez may need to return in February, depending on Dr. C’s evaluation.
ROSENDO URIBE ZAVALA: He was seen by Dr. Castillegos. He was directed to receive laser therapy at Dr. C’s clinic. He stated that he can set up the appointment at the clinic. He may need to return in February to see Dr. C.
LUIS MANUEL PEREZ AVILA: He was checked and evaluated. He is scheduled to return in February for cataract surgery.
ALFONSO SIQUEIROS MAYORAL: He was checked and received positive evaluation. He should return in one year for further follow-up.
ESTEVAN VILLACANA: He did not receive evaluation by Dr. Castillegos because of mistake in our notes. He was seen by another doctor who indicated that there has been improvement in controlling the thrombosis in his left eye. He should return in February to see Dr. C.
JACINTO CAPIZ RAMIREZ: He was checked and measured. He is scheduled to return in January for cataract surgery.
CARLOS ALONZO VARELA MORENO: This patient eventually needs surgery to remove the effects of pterygium. He was evaluated and the doctors decided that his condition was not yet seriously impairing his eyesight. Therefore, surgery was not performed because of the large number of patients needing cataract surgery. He should not return until the pterygium is advanced to the point of impairing his vision. Otherwise, patients who have more serious threats to their vision will receive surgery before he does.
PERLA LOPEZ RIVAS: This child received eye drops for infection. Doctor also directed that patient should use non-prescription eye drops. She should return in January. Family provided transportation.
EDGAR LOPEZ RIVAS: This child received eye drops for infection. Doctor also directed that patient should use non-prescription eye drops. He should return in January. Family provided transportation.
ERUBIEL AMAYA SOTO: This child was evaluated. He should return next month for glasses. Family provided transportation.
LESLY AMAYA SOTO: This child was evaluated. She should return next month for glasses. Family provided transportation.
MARIA MAGDALENA SAUCEDO: This patient did not appear for appointment.
ELVIA TORRES VALLEJO: This patient did not appear for appointment.
NOE VALENZUELA: This patient did not appear for appointment.
JORGE ANTONIO ALVAREZ VERA: This patient did not appear for appointment.
This was a busy day for the volunteer medical team. They preformed remarkably. There were probably twice as many patients at the clinic than there normally are. There is a whole new staff at DIF who are slowly finding “their way.” Becky and I returned after dark. This is not a safe situation because of the condition of the road, especially between Tecate and the turn-off to the new road connecting east TJ with the coast. We will request that Rosarito patients receive some sort of priority during these days of less daylight.
Merry Christmas and may 2011 be good to you and all.
