Hello,

For the 2025 season, we will be racing as part of the miscellaneous fleet. This means (1) we will start with the first division, (2) we will sail to the far windward mark, and (3) we will be scored on a handicap basis with the other miscellaneous boats. I'm not happy about this; I'd much rather compete with only Flying Scots.

It is up to us to build the fleet back up to at least five boats racing regularly.

  • If you are an experienced sailor who races only occasionally, please consider increasing you attendance. I will be forever grateful.
  • If you are new to racing, this is an excellent opportunity to get involved and develop your sailing skills.
  • I will be planning some events to introduce graduates of the Adult Sail Seminar to racing. Stay tuned for more information.

Eric and all:
As discussed at the Sail meeting at Llewelyns I am working with Brent, John Cassada and Miz to create a Level 2 sail class to advance racing skills.
We do not have everything Ironed out yet.
When rolled out, I will send out a note.
Please note: over time this is all sailors, but for  now, only the FS sailors have volunteered.
And starting small may be easier.
Please stay tuned.

Hello all,

Not surprised as the fleet has shrunk.

So we all sail faster and, what would the handicap be or how scored ?

I personally will try to sail more.

Lastly, we all should recruit as many graduates as we can.  Get all to sign up on the crew listing noting they had just completed the s latest sailing course.

I have signed up for RC duty with my crew, please review and volunteer yourselves where you can be committed.

See all soon be safe,

  John

Chris,

We need to keep Fleet Capt. up dated. Honor suggestion and, insights.

We cannot afford excluding anyone nor should we. Especially skippers who has interest.

John, You are correct.
Sorry, Eric.
This conversation is about the Level 2 sailing we discussed at the Llewelyns.
The level 2 is for sailors who are afraid to race because they feel they need more training/practice.
I gathered comments from John Cassada and Miz.
I am consolidating the comments this week and will forward to all.

Hello everyone:
Regarding the Level 2 sailing sessions we hope to roll out this year:
I only included flying scot sailors because they are the only ones who volunteered to kick this off.
Over time, as we succeed, I trust other skippers from other fleets will join.
Level 2 will be about a 3 hour saturday session to practice some skill.
Like starts or spinnakers.  Or docking.
I collected notes from John Cassada and Miz.
When Brent answers a few small questions about our current calendar ( which is missing some events), I will summarize the notes and schedule a meeting so we can all be on the same page.
Stay tuned everyone.
We want this project to take our new sailors and club to the next level.
Thank you to John and Miz for taking the time to stoke the fire.
Thank you to Brent for helping us move forward and to everyone else who has given us a push.

Hi Brent,
  yes.
The updated CSA webpage needs some date updates for us to insert the Level 2 sailing sessions. We need to know which days are open for our level 2 training sessions.
This allows folks to schedule the day.
1. FIRST QUESTION: Since we are busy this year AND this is a year kickoff, would it be better to do our level 2 on just the hare and hounds day? Or add a Saturday ?
2. These are the events needing a date. Maybe someone else will see others.
Let's lock in these missing dates and then I will send out notes and we will schedule a meeting.
 a. Try Sailing Day
        b. Social Events... if we add a Saturday, a level 2 training day might be good to get more folks out.
        c. Racing days. ( Buoy, long distance, juniors..)

Please reply to all. If someone else has an opinion to help us, please share.
Also, please note to all:  At this time, we only had Flying Scot Sailors volunteer, but I believe as we gather momentum, other skippers will come forward and this will become a great program.
Stay tuned.

 Hi Chris,

May I ask, what is your definition of level 2 training?

This type of training is very necessary. Thank you for you hard work and time. I do see this as a expanded version to the May racing clinic.

It appears like your timing is to schedule session at the same time of CSA events are sailed when the students should be participating.

Training first but,  If we want to include people who wants to experience then take your session, all for it.

Not to sail in as a substitute in training.

Hi Chris,
Please help me understand what’s going on here. By the way I’m coming to you both as the Vice Chairmen of the Board and the Co-race chairman.

You’re discussing level 2, who is certified to teach this or present this level of leadership and sailing expertise? And what about level 1, will this be presented or taught to those who want it, and by who? Also, is this training or class for the Flying Scot fleet or the club? Is it classroom or on the water or both?

I have added Scott Stevenson to this email as he is the board chairman and together we chair the race program.

Thank you for helping to clarify what’s going on here.

Rick Bernstein.
