Hello,
I have some useful information about the problem with boat #6
from Flying Scot Inc. See below and the included file. The
solution they suggest seems much easier and safer than what we
have been considering.

Hi Eric,
If it is a Customflex we do not use a lifting plate to lift the boat. The cb trunks are not strong enough. We use a bolt through the back of the centerboard trunk. See attached instructions for the lifting bridle for Customflex boats. Here is the link to the Customflex lifting bridle: https://flyingscot.com/product/stainless-steel-lifting-bridle/
Let us know if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Melanie

It's a Customflex boat number 1962.

Hi Eric,
Can you let us know the hull number? Who was the builder? Gordon Douglass? Customflex?
Thank you,
Melanie

Subject: Technical question on very old boat
Hello,
We have several loaner Flying Scots at Carlyle Sailing Association (CSA). On one of the boats, the plate for the aft end of the lifting strap pulled out of the centerboard trunk. See the picture below. As far as I know, the lifting strap was attached correctly and there was no water in the boat. This is a very old boat. I'm unsure of the hull number, but certainly < 2000.
I have some questions: What is the material underneath the outer layer of fiberglass at the aft end of the centerboard trunk? Is it wood? If so, is it possible the wood has rotted? Is it repairable?
Thanks in advance for any information,
Eric Sutton
