Dear Fosaf and Club Chairman, Kamberg Farmers
Community, Sponsors and friends in Fly Fishing,
I have had the attached report in draft for
sometime now and finally have found time to complete it and get it distributed.
There have been various previous media reports on the Tendela fly fishing
project which we, the KZNFFA, initiated in the Kamberg in 2011 so I am sure you
are all aware of it. This is not for media but is just an update to keep you all
in the loop with where we are and perhaps to engage in going forward with
the project.
May I take this opportunity to thank those who have
been involved in some way or another with the project, through sponsorship of
some anglers or offering fishing water to the community. It is much
appreciated and has benefitted them all.
For clubs there is an opportunity to liase with
Richard Khumalo and the other community leaders in river fishing outings for
members and general support of the area. I will also send it out to the school
fishing clubs as perhaps the youngsters may be keen to engage with the community
from a recreational and assisting perspective.
On another note I will shortly be sending info
regarding the visit to South Africa of Australian Fly Casting Champion and
Instructor, Peter Hayes. He will be hosted with us whilst in KZN and will be
presenting a couple of workshops...I am desperately trying to finalise a venue
for the Shongweni/Hillcrest area at present. The Durban event will be held at
Clifton College on Wed 15th May.
Below is a brief pre-release for media just to give
you an idea...(please don't pass it on). As soon as I have the final details
sorted of the workshops I will send it out.
Kind regards
Linda Gorlei
KZNFFA Secretary

LIKE MASTERCHEF TO
COOKING...VISITING AUSSIE PETER HAYES IS MASTER CASTER TO FLY
FISHING
The Kwazulu Natal Fly Fishing
Association will be hosting World Champion fly casting supremo and
Board of Governors Instructor with the
International Fly Fishers Federation whilst on his tour of South Africa. His
visit was initiated by members of the South
African teams visiting Tasmania for the Commonwealth Fly Fishing
Championship last year, and whom were blown away with his excentric
and captivating style of instructing fly casting. Peter brings an exciting
and interesting dynamic to casting and is entertaining to watch through his
different approach for all levels of experience, and he gives true
meaning to what is sometimes described as "the Art of Fly Fishing".
But Peters main passion is
teaching and making sure that anyone attending his workshop has taken something
away with them... says Peter "I assure you
there will be plenty of practical hands on teaching. It is the only way for you
to learn. If you simply watch me then I am showing off. No one wins
there."
The very great Lefty Kreh once told me '
Peter, don't ever display your skills, instead, teach them' . "I like
that concept. That's how I work."
