The Capelson lab at the Department of Biology at SDSU has multiple openings for Research Technician and Postdoctoral positions. The lab focuses on mechanisms of epigenetics, gene regulation and nuclear organization. We study how nuclear architecture and epigenetic pathways influence development, aging, cell type identity, cell growth and cell-environment interactions. We employ genetics, genomics, molecular biology, imaging and biochemical approaches to pursue these questions. Our work is currently funded by the National Institute of Health and generous start up funds.

For a Research Technician: Major responsibilities for this position will include carrying out and contributing to molecular, cell biological, and genetic experiments, and laboratory maintenance and organization. It can also involve an independent research project. Experience with a range of molecular biology techniques, such as PCR/qPCR, RNA/DNA extractions, molecular cloning, immunoprecipitation and western blotting is desired. Familiarity with immunofluorescence/microscopy, cell culture or Drosophila genetics is a plus. This position would be a great fit for a recent graduate looking to gain more research experience and learn new skills, as well as for an experienced candidate looking for a more permanent position.

For a Postdoctoral Scientist: Major responsibilities will include leading a research project, and designing and conducting experiments to gain new knowledge in the areas of epigenetics, nuclear architecture, development, aging and cell type identity. The candidate will have the opportunity to choose from a range of projects and to employ a variety of modern molecular, genetic and imaging skills.  Experience with standard molecular and cell biological techniques is highly desired. Experience with chromatin immunoprecipitation, RNA/DNA sequencing, and Drosophila genetics are a plus. The department offers opportunities to gain teaching experience for those interested in combined teaching-research careers. San Diego is a major biotech hub, and the university benefits from proximity to a vibrant research community of nearby La Jolla.
