The Drosophila Genomics Resource Center at Indiana University Bloomington (https://dgrc.bio.indiana.edu/Home) is seeking a Research Associate to join its team. The DGRC is a dynamic and heavily used repository for Drosophila genomic (DNA vectors and clones) and cell lines that serves researchers worldwide. IUB provides an outstanding intellectual environment for DGRC activities, with more than a dozen research groups using Drosophila for studies in molecular and cell biology, development, neurobiology, physiology, evolution and ecology.  The successful applicant will spend the majority of their time maintaining cell culture stocks, shipping both growing cultures and frozen stocks, supervising of the cell culture room, maintaining inventory, distributing archived DNA molecules, replicating and shipping bulk DNA collections, and preparing plasmids for shipping.  Must record each activity related to research in a laboratory notebook which should also include photographs, sketches, charts, graphs and other supporting materials. Responsibilities also include some general lab maintenance, including but not limited to purchasing supplies, coordinating disposal of waste, overseeing equipment maintenance and repair, organizing and maintaining plasmid collections, and training and supervising work of undergraduates.  The initial appointment is for one year.

BA or BS in biology, chemistry, or a related field, and previous lab experience required.  Applicants should have some prior research experience in cellular or molecular biology, but the exact topic is not important; training specific to work in the lab will be provided. The successful applicant must be well organized, detail-oriented, possess strong analytical and interpersonal skills, and able to work effectively with minimal supervision as part of a research team.  Salary: $37,370 plus benefits included. To apply, please submit 1) a brief cover letter describing your research/educational background, why you're interested in the position and the date you are available to start, 2) a CV, and 3) the names and contact info (including email addresses) of two references to: http://indiana.peopleadmin.com/postings/9175.  For best consideration, please apply before July 1, 2020.  Expected start date is September 1, 2020.
