Dear Flybase group US  contributors,
I am glad to start this conversation to ask you for helping me finding a fruit fly host lab.
My name is Ali BERRAAOUAN and I am a full professor of Animal physiology and Pharmacology at Mohammed Premier University in Morocco. My country collaborates with US to promote scientific research in Moroccan universities via the US government Fulbright grant given to academic staff as visiting scholars in US universities.
During my previous lab experience I worked on diabetes models in mammals and I am very confortable with the Langendorff heart technique. However, to face rising ethical concerns about using mammals in research, I decided to switch to Drosophila melanogaster as a disease model. I am now in my way to complete the preparation of a new facility specialised in fruit fly molecular physiology focusing on Diabetes-induced UPR (Unfolded protein response) in D. melanogaster. It will be the first Drosophila Lab in my home country as I Know.
My objective is to be hosted by a US Lab that works on the same subject and that could host me during 3 months of the next summer (2025) starting from August 1st, 2025. Being an engaged researcher, I can contribute to the diversity of the lab team and technically to the essential lab work done in the host lab.
Thank you for your consideration and I hope that I could have some labs suggestions to contact.

Sincerely,
Ali BERRAAOUAN
