Position Introduction:

The Department of Biology at Vassar College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning fall 2026.

Job Description:

We seek a broadly trained biologist with a focus on Developmental Neurobiology. We welcome research in a variety of model systems, including invertebrate model systems.  The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of four courses per year, at all levels of the curriculum, including introductory biology, an intermediate-level laboratory course in developmental biology, and advanced-level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. A fifth teaching unit will be allocated to intensive work with students (https://pages.vassar.edu/biologyintensives/ ). In addition to their work in the Biology Department, the candidate will be expected to contribute to Vassar's multidisciplinary Neuroscience and Behavior program. There may also be opportunities to contribute to other programs, including Biochemistry; Science, Technology, and Society; and Environmental Studies.


The successful candidate will have a dedicated research laboratory and office, a student research assistant, start-up funds, and access to shared departmental facilities and equipment (https://www.vassar.edu/science ), including state of the art microscopy facilities. Development of a productive research program with student participation is expected. A Ph.D. in biology or a related field is required by the time of appointment and postdoctoral experience is preferred.

Pay Transparency Disclosure:

The annual base starting salary range for this position is $94,000 to $104,000 (USD). This range includes new faculty appointments beginning the first year of a standard tenure clock as well as Assistant Professors with previous tenure-line experience who will be on an accelerated tenure clock. When extending an offer of employment, Vassar College considers factors such as (but not limited to) candidate’s education/training, work experience, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations. This salary range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of posting. The starting salary for an Assistant Professor in this position with a PhD beginning the first year of a standard tenure clock in Fall 2026 is $98,000.
