Greetings,

Is there a way to create a simple image slider in Flux? One that
flips from one image to another automatically. Maybe with some sort of
a transition effect.
What is the best way to go about it?

There are a number of slideshow type of presentations that could be
added using an iFrame. I have a couple of demo pages with several
examples: http://oldtoad.net/Demo_3/SimpleViewer.html,
http://oldtoad.net/Demo_3/Postcard.html and Jalbum Examples. Although
these are iWeb demo pages the code used in iWeb's html snippets os
just the code you would add to an iFrame in a Flux page. There are
some of the more simple examples. The basic slideshow can be created
from iPhoto, uploaded to the server and then the appropriate script
added to an iFrame.

Otherwise give a look at JALBUM, http://jalbum.net/skins/, which
creates the slideshow which you upload too the server and you put
into an iFrame. It has over 100 themes/skins to choose from. Some
examples are here: Jalbum Examples, http://oldtoad.net/Demo_3/Jalbum.html.

Thanks for the links Old Toad. I will look into them. There is a
similar utility called "WOW Slider" that does the same thing.

So I guess Flux doesn't have any Packages that will allow us to do
this within Flux without having to use other software?
That would be a nice feature for the wish list of "Flux 4".

Hi webdude,

No, you don't have to use other software. The simple image slider concept is fully achievable through the use of jQuery, whish is based on javascript and CSS and thus require only some code fiddling (from templates), some images of your choosing and a couple of uploaded plugin files to your server. Most modern browsers support it:
I read somewhere that earlier versions of Firefox can sport some buggy behavior with this, and also Konqueror on Linux. Camino should be the same as Firefox as they build on the same rendering engine.

This method is also favorable as it doesn't require Flash, which means it will work on tablets and smartphones as well. Google "jQuery image slider tutorials" and read until your eyes get sore. Note that not all slider plugins are free (but many are).

Bjørn

Yes, there are widgets already in Flux. You don't need to bring in any other code or use other software.

With your page open in the page editor, simply click on "Actions & Widgets" in the upper left. Click Widgets on the window that opens.
I like the Nivo Slider, which is toward the very bottom of the list when you scroll down. There is a "simple" and "advanced version"
There are a couple of other sliders in that list of widgets too, if I remember correctly.

@Bjørn: Thank for the suggestion!

@Sugga: THANKS!!! That is exactly what I was looking for. I totally
forgot about the "Actions & Widgets" option.

I just downloaded and tried out the WOW Slider. I like it. I created
a tutorial on how to add it to a web page via iFrame:
http://www.oldtoadstutorials.net/No.F04.html. I consider my approach
somewhat low tech compared to what most of more advanced designers
here could do but my approach is geared for iWeb users moving over to
Flux. All in all it's not unlike using HTML snippets in iWeb.
