Hello. Total novice here. I'm just getting started with Flutter/Dart and I have lots of questions. I don't want to spam stackoverflow and this group with lots of little things, so I was wondering if there was an active chat group somewhere that could help with this?

We hang out on #flutter on irc.freenode.net.  Feel free to stop by.

We have an IRC channel, #flutter on Freenode.

We're aware that IRC is not a particularly welcoming environment for
everyone, and are looking for other possible venues. If anyone has any
suggestions, please do let us know.

Sure, I can set that up if people want it.

The reason we haven't set up Slack yet is that joining a slack channel requires the permission of the channel owner, which runs a bit contrary to the open, inviting community we're trying to build.

Not to pick on dartlang.slack.com, but the landing page says "If you have an @google.com email address, you can create an account."  My concern is that text has a bias towards people with google.com email addresses.  Maybe there's a way to set up Slack in a way that isn't biased towards any particular organization?

By contrast, the #flutter channel on Freenode has an open door for anyone who wishes to join the community.  There are other problems with IRC, of course, especially for members of underrepresented groups, which is why Ian mentioned that we're looking for other possible venues.

Where exactly is that text? I looked around a bit but can't find it, and there should be no special treatment for @google.com email addresses.

To my knowledge, the only way we recommend for creating an account is the heroku app (https://dartlang-slack.herokuapp.com/).

When I go to "https://dartlang.slack.com/" in an incognito window, the text appears below the sign-in box.

I'm not very knowledgeable about Slack, so it's very possible my impression is based on ignorance.

Thanks for the details. I'll try to figure out how to remove that special sauce for @google.com people.
