Ive had a MC17T8000CS over the range microwave for a while now. One thing that I've had trouble figuring out is how to do manual settings for the air fryer. For example: if I wanted to cook something at 325F for 15 minutes, as stated a recipe.

For all the college students out there, I bet it feels good to gather a few friends and go to the dining hall, eating all of the fried foods and delicious desserts offered (talk about the freshman 15). However, if we have learned anything over the past few months, it is how to adapt and how to cook on your own.

Many college students are returning to dining halls and lecture halls and trading in homemade meals and virtual classes in bed. However, you can still indulge in some tasty and quick microwave treats that you would typically eat at home. And if you are living on your college campus, you may be snacking away a bit more in the comfort of your dorm to practice social distancing.

Below is a list of some of my favorite recipes that I created in my Sharp Stainless Steel Carousel Countertop Microwave Oven and that you can make in your Sharp Countertop Microwave oven or Microwave Drawer Oven.

For many years in my childhood (okay and my teens too), macaroni and cheese would be the only thing I would eat. Whenever I would go to a local diner or steakhouse with my close family and friends, the first thing I would be to look at the last page on the menu and see if they had a macaroni and cheese offering.

Right before my freshman year of college, one of the first things I bought was a case of generic microwave macaroni and cheese, and ate it a little more than I would like to admit. Now being a bit older, I think it may be time to mature the recipe, and l decided to look into a more homemade style recipe.

Some of the things you will need to pick up from the store are elbow macaroni (whole grain, gluten-free, your choice), shredded Cheddar-Jack cheese, and a splash of milk. For the macaroni and the milk, feel free to substitute them according to your dietary restrictions or personal preference. Shall we begin?

Listen carefully and head on over to the grocery store with your Simple DIY Face Mask and put a carton of eggs in your cart (you will need to use about 2-3 so the smaller, the better), a tablespoon of diced meat, salsa, shredded cheese, olive oil, and salt and pepper. Here we go!

Learn how to cook bulgur wheat based on the type of bulgur you are using. This post covers my foolproof methods for cooking the basic bulgur recipe on the stove top, in the microwave, and in a rice cooker.

In this post, we are going back to basics again and covering how to cook bulgur wheat. Below you will find details on how to make my basic bulgur recipe based on its type, along with instructions on cooking it on the stovetop, microwave, and rice cooker.

Before I continue explaining how to cook bulgur I think it is important to provide you with the water to bulgur ratio for cooking my basic bulgur recipe. This ratio works for any type of bulgur regardless of its size, except when cooking it in a rice cooker.

Nowadays, if I am buying packaged bulgur, I do not rinse it before cooking. The only time I give it a quick rinse is if I am using the bulgur that I purchased from the bulk bin, as it is sold in open containers and can get dusty quickly.

While the basic cooking method for any type of bulgur wheat can be done by placing it into a saucepan with water, I prefer cooking fine bulgur differently than other types of bulgur. Because it is so small in size, I do not see any point in boiling it.

Please know that the method of cooking I am listing below would work for medium-coarse, coarse grind, and extra-coarse bulgur. However, the cooking time might be slightly different depending on their size.

The difference between regular yellow bulgur and red bulgur is that the yellow one is made from durum wheat (also known as pasta wheat) (source), and the red one is made from whole grain red wheat.

Compared to durum wheat, red wheat is softer, and because of that, it cooks faster. Therefore, the cooking time for red bulgur is slightly shorter. The cooking process is no different, and it takes about 12-13 minutes for it to cook.

I find that cooking bulgur wheat in a rice cooker is convenient as there is no need to tend it. It takes longer, 45-50 minutes, compared to all other cooking methods, but I appreciate the fact that there is no need to babysit it.

Depending on the rice cooker you are using, there might be slight differences in settings. I tested this recipe using both the white rice and brown site settings, and the results in terms of cook time and taste were not different.

In Turkey, we use extra fine bulgur for tabouli salad (aka fresh herb and bulgur salad widely popular in Middle Eastern cuisine). This is not to say you can not use other varieties, but that is just how my mom (and many other Turkish cooks) did/does.

For example, if you are cooking bulgur wheat for tabouli, you can mix in a few tablespoons of tomato paste and salt into the boiling water and soak it in that mixture. This way, your tabbouleh salad will have a nice tomato-ey flavor that carries throughout the whole dish.

Thank you, I have eaten bulgar off and on over the years. This was very informative. Recently, my husband has tried it and likes it as did my mom. I will be adding it to our diet as we moved more to a plant based, whole grain lifestyle.

Hi Anaheid,

I have and would definitely recommend it. However, I recommend using some oil to help with the toasting process. You can see how I did this in my bulgur pilaf recipe. Simply, heat up some oil and add the bulgur. Toast for 5 minutes (or longer) before adding in the liquid. I also use vermicelli to make it even more delicious.

Hope this helps.

Our local grocery store sells only one kind of bulgur. I guess, based on your article, it is coarse bulgur. I made it following your recipe but next time I plan on trying red bulgur. Good recipe.

This is the best researched article on how to cook bulgar wheat depending on the type of bulgar used that I was able to find on the internet. Thank you so much for sharing it in such detail.

I cooked some coarse bulgur following your instructions and it turned out wonderfully. I am bookmarking your page to check out more of your recipes.

Hello Aysegul

Thankyou for the information on how to cook bulger wheat . Most informative and helpful .

But I have a question . I am making a Poppy seed cheese cake and the crust is made up of 1/4 cup of butter 1 tablespoon of butter and I cup of bulgur wheat . It says to melt butter in small saucepan over low heat . Stir in honey and bulgur wheat . But it does not say if the bulgur should be pre cooked or will it cook in the butter and honey. Then it is to be pressed into the spring form pan and lit cool . So what are your thoughts on this question and or method .

For years, I thought that eating oatmeal in the morning meant warming up one of those little packets of instant oats. Every once in a while, my mom would make a homemade pot of rolled oats on the stovetop and I was blown away by how much better that oatmeal tasted. But that cooking method took too long for me (it's like 10 minutes, I'm a lazy diva in the morning). Plus, the real downside was that I'd have to hand wash a pot. I don't want dishes in the morning!

It took me too long to discover that I could also make delicious, homemade rolled oats in the microwave. It's fast, easy, and best of all, doesn't create any extra dishes. It's perfect for busy mornings.

Microwave the rolled oats for 2 minutes and 30 seconds or until most of the water is absorbed. If you are using a shallow bowl, you will want to cook in 1-minute increments, stirring between each. This helps prevent the oatmeal from overflowing in your bowl. I also like to peek in the microwave towards the end of each increment to make sure nothing is spilling. If you have a very deep bowl, you should be able to just microwave it without taking breaks.

After most of the water is absorbed (usually 2.5-3 minutes), remove the bowl from the microwave and let oats rest for 1-2 minutes. Microwaves are sold with different wattages which affect how long your oats will take to be fully cooked.

Rolled oats are just one type of oats you can make in the microwave oven. Steel-cut oats are other delicious whole grains you can use to make a bowl of creamy oatmeal. Check out "How to Cook Steel Cut Oats in the Microwave Quickly," for the recipe.

If you have leftover oatmeal, it should be transferred to an airtight container or covered tightly with plastic or a reusable wrap. It can be stored in the fridge for 2-3 days. I would recommend eating it sooner rather than later, however. The longer it is stored, the more gelatinous it becomes.

Oats are a rich source of dietary fiber and vitamins and have many health benefits. Whole-grain oats are also a good source of protein. This means it helps you fill up faster and stay full longer, which can lead to weight loss. This also reduces the risk of heart disease. They are also full of an assortment of vitamins and minerals, as well as antioxidants.
