Hey Team,

One of the  concerns that was brought up in yesterday's meeting was to avoid using Dr. Nobes' solution of having a separate straight-edged enclosure around the mixing tank. One possible alternative is having a mixing tank with straight-edged outer walls, as shown in the attached figure. Is this feasible?

Thanks

Abbas

We brainstormed about this initially, but thought that still the light has to pass through the curved inner surface, distorting the light. Before the light passes the inner surface, the refractive index are still not similar. So we canceled this concept.

So does it work or not? If yes then that's it. Let me know if t works well.

Thanks

The tank wall will be solid, so after the light passes through the straight-edged surface, it won't distort at the curved surface, since the fluid will be of the same refractive index. Just think of it as a solid pentagonal prism. So from what I think, it should work. However, I would like to verify this with Dr. Nobes if possible, since it's a very simple design. If it works, he should be using it already.

Do you want to send him the email asking this. Also ask about sand particles (i.e. what are we taking picture of?) Also ask other questions that you have in mind. Also ask if we are responsible to do analysis on gearbox?

Thanks

Yes, my brother and I are finalizing a list of questions to ask Dr. Nobes. I will include the picture and ask him about the sand particles and gearbox.
