Hello Colleagues,

Hope you are all weathering exam season well.  I am having my students do a new lab next semester in which I would like them to measure the air speed coming out of a CPU fan from a varying distance (say 5-15 cm from the fan.) The CPU fan will switch on and off periodically but not too quickly (maybe once every 5 sec.) I don't care much about the students getting an accurate velocity, but I do want them to see that (1) the velocity amplitude decays with distance and (2) the frequency spectrum of their data loses the high frequency components as the measurement gets farther from the fan. I am looking at this sensor but am nervous about purchasing it because the company has been unresponsive to my questions and the data sheet doesn't look super thorough: https://tinyurl.com/4dat8kws Has anyone used this sensor, or can anyone recommend a similarly-priced sensor for this application that might be better?

Thanks very much for your help,
Erica Kemmerling

I have not used that particular sensor, but for that price (<$30) you can’t really go wrong!
