Dear Fluids Education aficionados:
I just posted this message to the APS DFD forum, but we are aiming to saturate the community with this call for volunteers in the remaining 2 weeks before the meeting! Please see below for a high-impact, low-time-investment way to take action on things that matter to you and to our community. Apologies if you receive this message through multiple channels!

Cheers,
Margaret

Dear colleagues:

This year has been a challenging one for research, from federal funding uncertainty to a shifting regulatory climate at universities across the U.S.  To help DFD members express their concerns to policymakers, we will have an APS in Action booth in the exhibit hall at the 2025 DFD meeting, supported by APS’s Government Affairs office.  Members will be able to pick up literature on how to engage in effective discussions with policymakers and other tools. We will also have two laptops open to the APS in Action web portal, where members can quickly and easily send messages to their elected representatives.

We are seeking volunteers to take half-hour shifts at this booth to manage the laptops and hand out literature. You do not need any special training or abilities to do this—just a desire to help your community amplify its voice on critical issues. We are aiming to have the booth “staffed” for as much of the meeting as possible, but especially around coffee and lunch breaks. Please consider signing up, and pass this message along to your students and colleagues so that we can keep the booth operational throughout the meeting. See you in Houston!
