cursor disappearing in gmail?

Hello,

I'm using (and mostly loving) Fluid to desktopify gmail. I set this up
almost a year ago and it's been working flawlessly up until the past
two months or so. When I'm composing a message, my cursor seems to
disappear from wherever it is supposed to be. I'm not talking about
the mouse pointer, rather, the vertical bar that usually flashes in
place and indicates where text will be added. It's a really minor
point though it has made using Fluid very problematic for gmail. Is
this something that more people are seeing or just me?

Thanks,

-josh

Hey Josh -

I was having the same problem, came here to see if anyone else had the
(gmail specific) problem, but have found a fix.

BTW: I've noticed it only happens when you move the cursor within the
compose email field. If you click on another field (e.g. subject) and
back again the first click is where the cursor is displayed (even if
you move the cursor by clicking elsewhere, or using the arrows).

Think it's because the version of webkit embedded in Fluid is outdated
(and gmail expects very latest webkit).

However, maybe the answer is to switch to the Fluidium build of fluid.
I've just started trying that and it works so far.

I think the fluidapp.com main website (not just developer tab) needs
to be updated with a reference to fluidium, or the download link
adjusted to be the latest fluidium download.

Tim,

Thanks so much for the reply! I gave fluidium a try but I'm still
having the problem, though I think I've actually identified the
source! I'm currently using Chrome (9.0.597.83 beta) and I have found
that the cursor problem starts if I alt-tab to Chrome and then return
to my gmail app. Everything works fine if I quit both programs and
only reopen gmail. I can then alt-tab to any other programs and retain
the normal behavior of my cursor in gmail.

I can't say this is a fault of Fluid. Photoshop CS5 also loses certain
functions, such as using the space bar shortcut, if a certain Chrome
plugin loads. Needless to say, I'm not happy with Chrome right now.
