However, there are curves plug-ins that can be downloaded that work pretty well. I am trying to figure out though if there is a way to fake a curves adjustment layer using one of those plug ins. I want to avoid having to make a new layer that is a merge of the other layers and then applying curves to the resulting new one, because it not only does not act like a curves adjustment layer, but it also makes the file bigger and more difficult to apply tweaks later on. If anyone knows a way to fake a curves adjustment layer, can you please post it here?

Elements does have curves. Enhance>Adjust Color>Adjust Color Curves. Now, it's pretty paltry compared to PS curves, but it is there. If you have windows, you should check out the free easy filter curves:

Whether you use windows or a mac, you can also add a curves adjustment layer from many of the add-on sites. However, in recent versions of PSE you will be limited to adjusting only the combined RGB channel, just as you are with the PSE built-in version. The only advantage is using a graph instead of sliders so you have more tweaky adjustments.

Also, I do have Curves plug ins, but I have not been able to find one that allows me to create an adjustment layer. Do you know of any? Or, if the curves plug in can be used to behave as an adjustment layer, in much the same way the other built-in adjustment layers act?

Grant's tools, Richard Lynch's tools, Elements+, for starters. But as I say, you will be subject to the limitations adobe put into the underlying code of PSE starting in PSE 4. Although the easyfilter plug-in doesn't create an adjustment layer, I think it gives you more flexibility than any of these do.

The problem here is now that layer locks me in to the adjustments I have done before, even if they are all layer adjustments, because I will apply the curves to the new layer, and then dup that layer for further adjustments, such as healing, cloning, clean up, etc.

I have a copy of Advanced Photoshop Elements 7 by Philip Andrews and just happened to read that on the companion Web site for the book (photoshopelements.net) he has some PSD files that were created in Photoshop and the adjustment layers in them can be dropped into an elements file to take advantage of those settings (although you can't really tweak them). I just downloaded them and will see how they perform. I guess if one has access to a friend's copy of Photoshop, he or she can create a number of curves adjustment layers, name and save them for use in Elements. Not perfect, but something at least.

No, what you're doing is what you have to do if you do it that way. But even a curves adjustment layer doesn't allow to go back and tweak it: you have to throw it out and create a new one (although I realize that's still more flexible than the plug-in, in that respect). It's less flexible in that you don't have as many ways to adjust to begin with, not in a curves adjustment layer in PSE.

Yes, it is limited, but with a little bit of playing I am finding them useful. In the curves PSD from his Web site there are a about 6 layers of layer adjustments that you can drop into Elements. For example, you can drop a Medium Contrast adj layer in. Then, if that is not enough (and if Strong Contrast was stronger than you wanted), you could drop another one in, play with opacity as well as blend modes. Of course, not the flexibility you want, but if you don't want some of the advantages of an adjustment layer, this is one way to get some of it.

- Color curves integrated in Elements: It's another way; it's really the best way to understand what curves do - it does not teach the math behind the digital feature, it educates your eyes to the visual effect of curves. It's a pity no one finds it hidden in the color enhancements, which is pure nonsense (it does not work on channels). It's not an ajustment curve layer.

- Using the black and white gradient map adjustment layer in luminosity mode: my own way, even if I have the required add-ons. Same exact effect with a different command interface. It's an adjustment layer. A single adjustment layer can convert to black and white or sepia in the same step. Available in 16-bits as a filter.

One known author has also made the remark that today, curves are no longer used on most pictures, like years ago. Purists stongly disagreed. They were wrong: I practically no longer use them. I do work in the ACR module (jpeg as well as raw), and I can have the same, or even better edits or enhancements by using the sliders in the basic tab. Like the gradient map solution, the adjustments use curves behind the scene, but the interface is different, with a direct visual feedback like the 'color curves' in Elements. The ACR module is 100% 16-bits and wide color gamut. That does not mean that using curves in the academic way is wrong, but in my opinion, it would be an error to reinstate the curves adjustment layer in Elements. A questionable tool to educate newcomers to editing; with the drawback of making them use tutorials written for the full Photoshop.

Back in early PS CS Curves with possible Luminosity blending was available as a 16 bit adjustment layer.

At this point I cannot afford Photoshop 2021/2022 in the cloud. I've been financially strapped since becoming a home owner.

LCH and Curves as adjustment layers would make Photoshop Elements 2022 a useful program to me. Without a true Curves adjustment layer Photoshop Elements is a no sale.

I totally approve the use of adjustment layers. That's why, even before 'color curves' were added to PSE I learnt to use black and white gradients adjustment curves instead. I still have books describing the process for PSE4. Just another interface metaphor than curves for the points definitions. Same math in the background.

So I have been needing to use the photoshop app for a while but all of a sudden it will not open. it says it is loading, but just stops loading after about 20 seconds. I have used it before and am on windows 10. I have tried some of the basic fixes ( opening task mangager and closing backround adobe, clearing prefrences, restarting my computer ect.). could someone help me so I can go back to using it?

Medha (or to whom it may concern?),

I'm having the same issue with 2020 loading. Tried what you suggested and got nothing. Tried the chat support only to wait hours (multiple days) with no help.

Any help will be appreciated.

Could you please check if any instances of Photoshop Elements are running in the Task Manager? If so, then please close them and then try launching the 'PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe' by double-clicking on it.

Finally: are you using the latest version of your OS< with all the security patches and such? I mean.. if you're using this on XP, Vista or Windows 7 then you're probably pretty much on your own because there are a lot of possible causes. Otherwise....

When all else fails you could try to move your settings out of the way to see if that helps. So... open a file manager, go to %APPDATA%, find the 'Adobe' directory and either rename the whole directory or rename the 'Elements' folder invite. Then try to start the program again to see if this changes anything.

(Sorry this awnser took so long I didn't get a notification) I have tried this, When I click it, my cursor shows that it is loading for about a second, then it just stops and nothing happens. Does it matter that I moved it to a different drive because my main drive didn't have enough space at the time? (I have more than 15 gigs now in the main drive.)

I've been very inactive on this community as of late and the main reason for that was this mess. I could basically (or re-install) Photoshop Elements 2020 every single week because it refused to start (it would stall as the OP mentioned). Eventually things changed (this was a several weeks ago) and I no longer had issues with PSE freezing to start, but now it would constantly crash whenever I tried to shut it down. Forget about a prompt asking you to save, instead you got the crash form. I sent a few reports in but eventually stopped bothering because it became "normal". Needless to say that this wasn't helping my motivation to participate very much (I live by "If you don't have anything nice to say then maybe not say anything at all? (except where it's ontopic of course)) and I also wasn't so happy with my purchase anymore. Not necessarily negative, but...

BUT... they fixed it. I got a PSE update which was more than a week ago and right now I get to enjoy the whole suite again. It starts normally, I no longer had any crashes during shutdown since the update and I finally get to enjoy myself using this software again. Although I'm not too positive about the time it took to fix all this I am happy to see that it finally happened and well... My admiration for the software itself never changed; I (still) think working with PSE is amazing. I used Gimp before but I'm not looking back.

I am having the exact problem launching the Photo Editor. I purchased and downloaded PSE 2020 a few months ago from Adobe online but wanted to take a PSE course before trying to use it. Now, when I try to open it up, you can see that it it trying to but then stops. During that process, a small window opens up with an offer to try the 1-month free trial. I don't want that....I have already purchased the program!! If I open Organizer and try to connect to the Editor from that page, it does the same thing.

Still looking for help in launching the Photoshop Elements Photo Editor & Video Editor. The Organizer opens. I read that there is an update.available. Anyone know where I can get this? Cannot seem to get a response from any Adobe "tech folks". Have spent hours and hours resolving this with no luck.

Drberinstallieren bringt keine nderung.
