I just built my own Windows 10 computer with a Z170 Pro Gaming motherboard from Asus , but when I installed windows and connected an ethernet cord to the router, I'm not connected even though it works when attached to a different device. I know my motherboard came with a CD for drivers, which I suspect may need to be installed for the ethernet to work (the ethernet port from the mobo probably needs the software driver to run, right?) But I don't have an optical drive, so I'm trying to download the drivers to a usb on a separate computer. The problem is that there's over 90 different ASUS drivers for that motherboard, and I have no idea which of them I need to use or not. I do not yet have a wi-fi card or connection. How can I get connected to the internet?

If it is this motherboard then the NIC is an Intel I219V. So finding the driver should be easy. And once it has a working Ethernet connection it might automatically update most other drivers on its own.

Since the hardware is connected but the drivers are missing you just need the driversAlso there are so many of them how to know which is the one that is a signed driver for your Lan connection right? Here's how:

Open the run window using Win + R key.Type devmgmt.msc. it will open Device manager. Now look for "Network Adapters" there.Select your Lan Connection Adapter something like " xyz ethernet adapter"Now right click on it and select "Properties".After the go to "Details" tab. Then next you need to select the "Property" value as " Hardware Ids" in the drop down.Once done you will see the "Value" box below in the same window. It will have 4-5 or less values in rows. Select the top one.It will be something like : "PCI\VEN_15AD&DEV_07B0&SUBSYS_07B015AD&REV_01"Copy this and on a different laptop search for this value on google. It will give you the results for drivers download for this.Download the driver on the laptop.Save it in a bootable drive or hard disk. Connect the hard disk to your pc.Again go to Device Manager and click on Update Driver for the Lan Adapter.Select the option as Let me choose. Then select choose from a location on the PC.Go to the folder where the driver is saved in your hard disk.Load the driver and finish the install.Reboot the PC once done. And you are good to go.Now the PC will identify the LAN connection as trhe drivers are installed.Let me know if this helps.. :-)

I just bought a Dell E7450 and having issues with Ethernet connection. When I connect Ethernet cable to laptop without docking station it works fine. But when it is connected through Docking station it does not recognize the connection. I have tried swapping the docking station and re-installing the driver without success.

Basically you need to turn off "Energy Efficient Ethernet" for the NIC. Open up Device Manager, expand the Network Adapters section and open up the Properties for your NIC. In the Advanced tab, there should be an option to disable the Energy Efficient Ethernet option.

Are the other ports on the E-port working correctly when the system is docked? My first thought is to try to update the BIOS in that system. Here is a link to the latest BIOS, version A04, for the E7450.

My second thought is to check the settings on the driver for the Intel network cards in the system. (Are you using an Intel Wireless card?) The E7450 comes with an Intel Gigabit Ethernet Controller. I wonder if the system isn't turning that integrated NIC off when it's docked, causing a conflict?

Have you tried other systems with that dock? Or that system on another E-Port? Is this something that just occurred or is it something that has been happening since the very first time you tried the E-port?

Now the really odd thing is: you can boot into OS while machine is in dock and it works ok. But if you disconnect and reconnect to dockingstation, the NIC goes down mentioning "no cable plugged in". NIC will not come up again until I disconnect the machine from the dock and plug in cable directly into the NIC of the machine. When cable is in NIC directly and the machine gets reconnected to the dock, NIC fails again.

Does anyone have an update or solution for this? I'm seeing the same thing on a Latitude E5450. Windows 10. Wired Ethernet worked fine before today. Now it doesn't work in the dock, only when the network cable is directly plugged into the laptop. Tried 2 different docks.

Similar problems here. Using a Precision M4800. I tend to use sleep mode before un-docking the computer. When I dock it again in the morning it does not connect to the wired connection. I simply disconnect the ethernet and plug it back in and it picks up just fine though. It's definitely a pain but managable.

Go to the properties of the WIFI, "Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections", Right click on the WI-FI adapter, Properties, Configure, advanced, Power output. Change it from 100% to 75%. If you wish to use external monitor attached to the docking station, you will have to change it to 50%. The only problem now with the 50% is that the WIFI will no longer switch off automatically. Closing the lid also affects this, so you may have to play with this setting.

After a 1 years of ordeal...spending lots of money and calling the phone provider several times (rewired my land line twice! changed router 3 times, added wifi repeater..) I think I have found the answer! It's the screen cover.

I really think it is a mechanical issue: the screen is acting as a Faraday cage and masks the signal = wrong wifi antenna location. It has nothing to do with energy setting (proven by partially open test).

I think I found a fix for this. I had the same problem with one difference - ethernet did not work at all even if i booted with dock. I have a 7390 with the D6000 dock and no ethernet, only wifi and the Ethernet adapter said "not plugged in". I fiddled around with the power-settings mentioned above for a while with no result. I then uninstalled DisplayLink drivers completely and got an ethernet-connection immediately!

I have been fighting this issue for a few days now and FINALLY figured it out. (make sure you have admin privileges when doing this) This fix is for Windows 10 but hopefully similar steps could resolve it on Windows 7 and 8 too. This fix is for Build 1809 and 1903 (untested in other builds)

4. Navigate to the "driver" tab and choose "update driver" and select "Search Automatically for driver update software" the result will be windows will either tell you that you have the latest driver installed, or it will install the latest one for you automatically. Do this for all available network adapter devices

5. Next, in Device manager, hit the drop down on "Display adapters" and find your docking station in there (thats the location mine was in at least) and right click it and hit "properties." navigate to the driver tab again and select update driver and do the same "Search Automatically for driver update software" more than likely an update for your docking station will come down automatically and apply itself to your PC. Do this step for any device located in device manager pertaining to your docking station. Now, reconnect your ethernet cable to the docking station again and you should have link lights.

6. open up your network settings and find "change adapter options." If your docking station at least has link lights, you should see "Ethernet 2" with "Dell Giga Ethernet" under it or something similar. open up those properties and set your IP to an available IP address within your network scheme, along with your subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS settings (if you use them.) Once complete, hit "apply" or "ok" and close the "properties" window of the ethernet settings dialog box. you should now be back at the "Network Connections" screen and see your network 2 setting say "identifying" within your network connections screen. once thats done, the Ethernet connection will be enabled and you are good to go!

My HP was working perfectly until a windows file became corrupt and I had to reinstall Windows. Now none of my networking adaptors are present, not the drivers and I am now unable to connect to the internet even just using the ethernet cable.

This driver file does have support for the hardware ID you posted, but it probably isn't working because the W10 code is too different for the W7 code to work. Sometimes older drivers work, and sometimes they don't.

Thanks so much for the detailed instructions. I did all that and got the same error. Is will give a message saying "Windows found a driver for your device but encountered an error when trying to install them." Then it lists the nVidia Nforce Netwroking Controller and says "The system cannot find the file specified"

In the device manager, I do not have the Network Adaptors Tab, but under the Other Device tab, it lists bot an Ethernet Controller and an Unknown Device, they have Yellow exclamation point triangles next to them not checkmarks.
