Since March 17, 2025, there is a known, intermittent issue which can cause grading to get stuck at Step 1 in Flubaroo. It should not affect the autograde feature if it was already set up before this date. See below for how to work around this issue.
The issue is caused if/when you are signed-in to multiple Google/Gmail accounts at once in the same web browser profile (i.e. a school account and a personal account). It has to do with the web browser sometimes sending the wrong user's credentials to Flubaroo (i.e. trying to load data from a school sheet by using your personal account). This course will fail ,and hence causes Flubaroo to get stuck.
There are three ways to resolve this:
- Easy: Open a private browsing window or incognito window in your web browser. Sign-in only with the account you intend to use Flubaroo with. Do your grading as usual.
- Medium: If your school doesn't let you use incognito or private browsing windows, then just sign-out of all Google accounts in your web browser. Then sign back in with only the account you intend to use Flubaroo with. Do you grading as usual.
- Hard (but worth it): Create separate web browser profiles for each of your users (i.e. one for personal, one for school). See this article for doing this on Chrome. In each profile, only ever sign-in with one Google/Gmail account. Never sign-in to other accounts in this profile. This 1:1 mapping between profile and user account will ensure that Add-ons like Flubaroo won't get confused. It will also make it really quick and easy for you to switch back-and-forth between your different accounts! I use this approach, and always recommend it to everyone I work with.
Apologies for this change/issue, which is unfortunately out of my control.
Best,
Dave
