Hi there !

I'm using Flubaroo since today. I've stumbled upon an error in the first quiz that I've created when I run Flubaroo (see joined screenshot) :

There seems to be a mistake (or mispell) in the formula for the cells where the error happens. The formula is :

 : =countif(K8:K9, ">0") / 2

Screenshot here : http://www.awesomescreenshot.com/image/429614/29687a243ca872a769ad5b2c76f0ef1e

And, accordingly to Google Sheets help, it should be :

 : =countif(K8:K9; ">0") / 2

If I replace the comma by the semicolon, then my grading is fine and there is no mistakes left in my form.

How come that I get this error ? Can you help me to fix it ? Is it something wrong with my Google Sheets ?

Thanks in advance for any help !

(And great job with Flubaroo by the way ;))

Greetz,

Isabelle

Great catch.  The problem is that the comma is the correct syntax in many parts of the world.  I hope Dave can find a way to make the formulas match the syntax used in multiple countries.

This is a new version of flubaroo !

Hi Joe !

Thanks for your input ! And you are absolutely right : if I change my settings in my Google Board to select English as my default language instead of French, then Flubaroo works like a charm as you can see on this screenshot :

And indeed the correct syntax then is the comma in the formula... It seems crazy to me that there are different syntaxes in different countries !!! I thought that it was kind of a universal language ;)

I tried to turn the comma into a semicolon ; Google automatically replaces the semicolon by a comma. So maybe Dave can use a semicolon by default since it is automatically reversed to a nice working comma by Google ?
Then Flubaroo could run in France too :)

Thanks again for your help ! I hope that Dave can find a fix because, as you can see, English is not my "forte" and I'd prefer to switch back to french as my default language in Google.

Greetz,

Isabelle

Hi again,

I found a quick fix to get Flubaroo to work nicely even in France ;)
I changed the property in my spreadsheets (File > Settings of the current Spreadsheet (or something like that) as indicated in this screenshot :

Everything is in french on my end (my Google dashboard, my form, Flubaroo itself) but then Flubaroo works like a charm and the comma/semicolon issue is worked out.

Simple and quick fix ;)

Isabelle

Thanks for all of this great research, Isabelle. Specifically, what you discovered about the ";" always working is great.

I just updated the code to just always use a ";" so it works in all regions. The new version is published. Would you change your settings back to normal, reload your spreadsheet, and try grading again?

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave !

Thanks so much for this update ! I've changed my settings back to normal (France / French everywhere) and everything works smoothly on my end !
And if I revert back to English, the semicolon turns into a comma and Flubaroo keeps working as a charm. So I guess you found a universal way of handling things.

I'm glad I could contribute in any way to this great project ! By the way, do you have a file you could send me, with the french location of Flubaroo ? I could help in correcting some sentences and mispellings in the translation (I promise my french is much better than my english !)

Thanks again,

Isabelle

Actually, YOU found it. So thank you!! I would have probably come up with a much more complex and less elegant solution than the semi-colon. :)

Let me get back to you in a few days on this. I'll need some help with text in the new version that has yet to be translated.
