Hello Flower friends,

I am very impressed with dianthus Green Trick, the cuttings Sheila sourced made very productive plants, and they last an amazing long time once cut, 2 weeks plus. I really don't want to lose this plant over the winter, so I would like to propagate it. Do you have any advice on how to do this successfully? Also, will this overwinter outside( this year's plants), or does it need to be brought under cover? Will they be as productive next year?

Looking forward to your advice...

Many thanks,

Catrinel

This is my 2nd year of growing green trick.
Last year I got 6 plants and propagated 3 more while they were still young. These 9 were planted in my polytunnel. They flowered all last season, and if took cuttings from them in September and October last year, which I over wintered in my greenhouse.
The original plants flowered well last year, and started flowering early this year but are now spent and will be removed this week.
Some of the propagated cuttings, and some of the plants from Sheila were planted in the polytunnel this spring, and some were planted outside.
I now can't tell the difference between the bought in and my propagated plant in the polytunnel, and all are being prolific.

Outside however, the flowers are good, but the plants are more yellow, and are not as strong.
They look to me like they are getting too much light on my sunny and exposed field.

I will propagate from the greenhouse grown plants again, and if I plant outside again, I'll try a sheltered, and maybe partially shaded spot. From the look of the outside plants, I wouldn't expect them to come through a winter, but I will try.

Hope that helps
Claire
