morning all
I am looking at next years planting and would like to grow thlaspi or a near equivalent. Has anyone tried growing it or have any ideas for a good substitute?

Hi Amanda

this was on the list that went to moles, but they advised against it as being too close to an invasive farm weed, - so would be good to know if others have a substitute

Hi there,
I too couldn't find any green bell in a seed catalogue, so I bought some from the wholesaler last year, put them in a jug of water until they went brown and collected the seed,

I sowed them as an experiment in spring , some in the greenhouse and some outside, all of them grew, the outside ones were very sturdy and not as long, although they weren't on the best patch of ground, still perfectly usable, the green house ones were a lot bigger and more like the wholesalers, and I didn't feed them either.

I have left them to go to seed and there are masses, the plants that were outside have already reseeded themselves on the path.

They are not difficult to grow.  If you cant get the seeds I am happy to provide some.

I have also done this with all the varieties of erigyum thistles, it is probably cheaper than buying the seeds!

hope that helps

Hi All

I have had a request from a bride who is desperate for locally sourced flowers for her wedding on 14th March next year.  It will only be my first proper year growing and I know things are a little lean at this time of the year, so I can't commit to anything at this stage.  She is hoping to put the flowers together herself, so this would be supply only.

She and I are based in Leicestershire, so if anyone could help, I will pass on your details, maybe with a list of what you could have available.

Also... whilst I'm contacting you all.  I'm wondering if anyone could put me in touch with any large scale UK growers in the midlands area?  I'm also a floristry tutor and am keen to promote British flowers to my students.  I have clearance for a trip to see flower production, so if you can recommend anyone that would be fantastic!

Many thanks

Vikki

I don’t know any in the area.  Almost all big commercial growers are in Lincolnshire/Norfolk.

If you can stretch to travel that far then I’ll put you in touch with a couple.

HI Alex, sorry for the delay in replying I was on holiday. If the offer still stands I would be interested in some Thlaspi seeds. Are you selling them or doing swapsies?? Let me know.

I will be very careful that it doesn't invade anywhere!

The only other alternative that I guess is similar is the seedpods of tall candytuft??? But they don't have the same airiness!

Thanks

Sara
