Any recommendations for business insurance - Public and Employers Liability - would be gratefully received. Have had a quote from the NFU of £500 and looking for something cheaper if possible.

Thanks!

I found NFU to be very expensive too. I tried various options but couldn't find a policy to cover everything I do - weddings, farmers markets & having the public on site. I went to a broker & they did a purpose built policy for £200. Depends what you need it for...eg market traders assoc is good for markets only.

Hi
We have put my business insurance onto our existing home and contents insurance policy which turned out to be the cheapest solution
Best wishes

No particular recommendation - but may I just remind everyone how important insurance is?  As well as PLI you also need Employer’s Liability if you have anyone working with you EVEN IF THEY’RE VOLUNTEERS and not being paid.
I think the compensation culture is pushing up the size of cover required - the RHS used to be happy with £5m but now demand £10m cover on our Flowers from the Farm policy to appear at their shows.
We’ll be looking into getting a tailor-made policy for FFTF members in the near future.

I had a look round last year and ended up going with Direct Line, we got a 10% discount as our car insurance is with them. It was a lot cheaper than other companies for the same cover. I needed Employers liability for my volunteers. I have Public & Product liability £2M, Employers liability £10M, I'm covered for goods in transit.

Interestingly on the subject of insurance make sure your car insurance covers you for business use, including delivering items. As your insurance may prove invalid in the case of an accident whilst undertaking business driving (including in some cases driving to attend courses or to bank money) if you have only insured your car for personal use. There may also be a points implication if you are stopped by police whilst undertaking business in a car only insured for personal use. It didn't actually cost me any extra for my car to be insured for business use, it just needed to be logged on the system.

My insurance is with the NFU, and just under £500. It covers a whole range of insurance needs for my business, and though expensive, it is the most comprehensive policy covering my needs that I could find.
