I have Norton installed on 3 PCs, but one of them does not have the "Run Smart Scan" button when I bring up the My Norton page from the taskbar. It's a new PC, so I'm stumped why the button would not show up.
(I believe now part of the reason is because the PC came preinstalled with a different version of Norton.)

I have the Norton Security for 5 devices and put one on my new iMac, but when I click on Advanced Customize it doesn't open. Nothing happens. I was hoping if I uninstalled norton and reinstalled it then it would work. I tried the norton uninstall, but it said it didn't work with OS systems. Does anyone know who I can either get the Advance to work so I can use the settings or how to uninstall it and reinstall?
Someone beat me to it but all I can say is, if Norton paid me one million dollars to install their software on my Macs, I would do it and use part of the money to buy a new Mac without their software installed.
Installing any antivirus application on a Mac is not recommended unless you want an unstable and crashing computer. OS X is extremely secure and only needs to be kept up-to-date to remain so. AV, cleaning, or ANY other third party tools for keeping OS X running well are are total waste of time, energy and system resources.
I followed the instructions provided on Norton to uninstall it, but after running it on the terminal to said it didn't find any files for symantec. I don't have symantec solutions. The only thing I have is the Norton icon in the dock and when I click it gives me the option of running live update, and a quick or full scan. Are there any other ideas for getting this off of my iMac?
Do not reinstall Norton. It will seriously slow down your computer and may also cause other issues. Mac's cannot be infected with any virus, so why would you spend good money on Norton for something which does no good for you?

Antivirus software helps to protect Windows 10 devices by scanning files and processes in real time. It looks for harmful codes or patterns linked to known viruses. The software keeps a database of virus signatures and compares files on your computer with these signatures to find matches. It also examines file behavior and characteristics to detect new viruses or other types of malware. By using real-time scanning, signature-based detection, and other types of file analysis, antivirus software helps to provide virus and other malware protection for Windows 10 devices.
Norton AntiVirus Plus can help protect you against phishing on your Windows 10 PC. It helps to block fraudulent websites that were created by scammers to steal your personal information, money, and passwords.

I bought a new HP Stream yesterday and can't get Norton or Google Chrome to download. I spent hours trying to find out how to give 'permission' for an app outside the app store to download which has so far failed. I require both apps for university and had been advised by one of the shops I looked at about the laptop that it could easily support norton. Please can someone help me, I need the laptop for tuesday's lecture!
Most often, file download problems in Win10 are due to folks using the new default Win10 browser - Edge. MS has configured it to largely prevent downloads by defajult, while other Browsers do not have this limitation.
You can switch to using Internet Explorer (which has a lot less problems in Win10) following these directions: -setup/6310-how-reset-ie-default-browser-instead-edge.html
If that does not solve the browser problems, then consider switching to Chromium -- which is a lot more work to install, but works well.
Hi, thank you for your advice! The first thing we tried was downloading through internet explorer. It seemed as though the laptop simply didn't want me to download any protection other than McAfee. Luckly, after four hours of trying I managed to bypass the dodgy restrictionns and now my laptop is fully protected.
If you are going to be running Norton, then be sure to uninstall and remove all remnants of McAffee -- as having two running will cause major problems. You might have to go to the McAffee website to see if they have a "cleanup" tool to remove it.
I have uninstalled Norton using several methods and I still have the Norton Download Manager popping up. I want to get rid of Norton completely. I have tried the Norton Utilities, I have tried MS-Config. Nothing works.
check to make sure it isn't in your public folders... I searched and researched, I went into the registries, deleted all norton products in the registry keys as well as in windows currentversion run & runonce (if it in there) and then discovered when I deleted it from the runonce folder within the registry under microsoft windows for local user, I saw the window pop right back up and the key automatically reappear after I just deleted... that is when I SAW where the program was hiding... it was hiding under user\public\downloads (or public downloads). I deleted it from there, and then went back to the registry and deleted it from the keys again that reproduced themselves.
After doing everything listed, if you are still getting the pop ups and reminders, this should take care of it. There is a folder that remains buried in C:\Users\[Primary User's Name]\AppData\Local\Temp folder. It just has a long string of letters and numbers. If you double click and go into it you will see the icons for the pop up message. Go out of folder, delete, and empty trash can. Reboot computer and you should be rid of this nuisance.
Manually delete all Norton files on your system by searching for "Norton" at the C: level in your file system. Delete any Norton files that show up. Also do the same with Norton registry keys - open regedit.exe and click through all the lists until you find something to do with Norton. If you find anything to do with it, delete.
When the installer pops up, open task manager and find .exe file that has been running it and delete it. Also go ahead and delete the file named SymInstallStub.exe which runs Norton Utilities Installer, that's why the installer always pops up. I believe it accidently came with the Adobe Shockwave but anyways after that, you're good.
