Watch Plex instantly online from your personal computer or on any internet-connected device that offers the Plex app. That includes streaming media players (Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, etc.), smart TVs (LG, Hisense, Samsung, VIZIO, etc.), smartphones, tablets, game consoles, and more!
Plex Pass is our premium subscription option designed for our users looking to get the most out of their own personal media via their Plex Media Server. We do not currently offer any option for watching Plex-provided content without ads. A Plex Pass does not remove ads, nor does it provide access to extra content on our free services. Yes! If you are looking for the perfect home for your own media, look no further than the Plex Media Server. You can install the server on a computer or NAS device you already have and then get up and running in minutes. Check out our support articles here.
Hey so simple question hopefully: I have an HTPC setup that, for some reason, the Plex Media Player client decided to randomly self-destruct. Server, hosted on a docker on a NAS elsewhere, is fine. This HTPC is a Win7 PC that literally is meant for only this. I want to simply install the latest win7 version of the plex media player but the current download on the main website is only for win10 and up. I have not found an archive section. Is there an official archive section for plex's old clients that I may use? or, alternatively, any 3rd party hosting that you obviously well intentioned altruistic fellow redditors can point me to that doesn't virus the sht out of my pc?
To play downloaded content, simply go to the Downloads library, find the entry, and play it. You can click on the artwork to immediately initiate playback or click on the title of the download to view the preplay screens and the other items in it like tracks, seasons and episodes.
As you know, PlexCorp doesn't bother to make a Linux client for Plex Media Player. For a while, "knapsu" was kind enough to convert/package the player in AppImage and Flatpak format, but this project seems to be abandoned -- the last AppImage daily build is from way back in May, and the latest Flatpak is similarly ancient. Furthermore, both have become buggier and buggier as tech advances but the builds don't. At this point, neither run on my systems.
(plexmediaplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libmpv.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory ) I had an easier solution to this issue than downgrading, was just to uninstall mpv and plex-media-player, and then install just plex-media-player again so it pull down the right mpv dependency :)
How will Infuse help me out here, or will it? I tried setting up the Infuse App, pointed it to my existing Plex server and it immediately wanted me to do a subscription. Before subscribing I want to better understand what I would be getting out of Infuse that Plex is not doing for me.
Every time I play a new title with Infuse I am getting the subtitles, is there an option that will disable the subtitles automatically but still display forced subs in MKVs that have those (I believe I set something on the server side to display forced subs automatically bot not sure if that propagates to players like Infuse).
1). I watch PLEX via an Apple TV or directly from my MacMini using PLEX media player. When I set these devices up there was a spot to put my username and password for both the AppleTV and the MacMini using PLEX Media Player but there is no media guide for either device. Is there a setting I am missing somewhere?
You need to discover the Plex Media Player as a device on your Apple TV. Open PMP on your ATV, then go to Devices in your ATV device and tap the Discover Plex button. After reloading everything, you should then be able to access your Plex media assuming your Plex server is configured per the Compatibility page.
Funny because this subject has been already discussed previously, -plex-media-server/?do=findComment&comment=108291. The thread has been closed without knowing what the person did to fix it. For sure your router block the 32400 port, this is confirmed now. I tried everything possible. I found a workaround but this is not a real solution.
The Plex integration allows you to connect Home Assistant to a Plex Media Server. Once configured, actively streaming Plex Clients show up as media players and report playback status and library sizes via sensors in Home Assistant. Media players will allow you to control media playback and see the current playing item.
During setup, you will need to log in as a server administrator. The integration will check all possible ways to connect to your Plex server(s) - i.e., local or public addresses, HTTP or HTTPS, by IP or using a subdomain of plex.direct, or by using a Plex relay if all other methods fail. The integration will prefer local over public and secure over insecure, in that order. The selected address is shown on the Plex card on the Integrations page.
If your router enforces DNS rebind protection, connections to the local plex.direct hostname may fail (see Plex documentation). To avoid this, configure your router to allow DNS rebinding for plex.direct by following the instructions in the documentation link.
The library sensors show a count of items in each library. Depending on the library contents, the sensor will show extra detail in its attributes. For example, a library sensor for TV shows will represent the total number of episodes in the library and its attributes will also report the number of shows and seasons it contains. The last added media item (movie, album, or episode) and a timestamp showing when it was added to its respective library are also provided.
A button.scan_clients entity is available to discover new controllable Plex clients. This may be necessary in scripts or automations which control a Plex client app, but where the underlying device must be turned on first. This button is preferred over the legacy plex.scan_for_clients service.
Instead of searching for a specific known piece of media, many additional parameters are available to run more powerful searches. This can also be used when a simple search for a title has multiple matches, such as with movie remakes.
The search will attempt to guess the type of media based on the search parameters by using the most specific media type provided. For example, a search using artist.title and album.year will search for albums for the artist that were released in a specific year. If you add track.title to the search, it will instead try to find the track. You may specify the type of media to search for with the libtype parameter which can be one of movie, episode, season, show, track, album, or artist. This could be useful if searching for an album where you only know the name of a specific track (see example below).
Call the media_player.play_media service with the entity_id of a Sonos integration device and media_content_type prepended with plex://. Both music and playlist media_content_type values are supported.
I am in the same situation i bought a vero 4k+ to replace my htpc.
I use the plex client, just installed and works perfectly.
Once it has been updated to incorporate the live tv section / dvr functions it will be perfect.
The chowmain kodi lite driver also achieves a similar experience (with a Kodi device) but without a plex server. Both drivers are great but you may as well stick with the plex driver since you have the server set up.
Our Plex Full driver for Control4 provides full library integration with the ability to browse, search and start playback of media straight from your Control4 navigator plus the ability to switch users so that you can limit content for children and also maintain different recently watched lists for different family members.
We support a wide range of Plex Clients including Plex Home Theater HTPC's, Plex Media Player HTPC's, Sony Android TV's and Roku. All of these have the ability to start playback of your media from whatever state it is currently in (eg Sony TV's can be off and Roku's can be in a different app).
The Intel NUC has been around for a while and considered as one of the best kit to build an HTPC. Before models with Brasswell and Sky Lake chipsets however, I always considered it as a big investment because you would need to grab one with i3, i5, or i7 processors to be sure it would be able to handle all media formats. Plus you probably need to make some additional spending on Windows 8/10 for the operating system.
For over a year, I had been using Minix Neo Z64 running Plex Home Theater as client to browse and play media library from my Plex Media Server on my TV. It had served its primary purpose well but I started to find some limitations from it:
Now that you know which buttons are recognized as which by PMP, all you need to do is to create a custom inputmap file to your preference and upload it using SSH/SFTP to the NUC under /storage/.local/share/plexmediaplayer/inputmaps/ directory. By the way, the remote is recognized as LIRC.
Regarding the Sleep button for NUC, I agree that it is not 100% reliable. In my case, it usually takes a couple of presses to wake the NUC from sleep. I end up either leaving it on, considering the NUC only draws 6W on standby, or shutting it down completely when not using it. The Sleep button works to boot the device from power off mode and it takes less than a minute to have Plex Media Player ready for playing my media library.
Hi, this is fantastic, thanks for all your hard work. The issue i am having is trying to get it to automatically run when booting up, to run:
mkdir -p /home/pi/.config/autostart
I had to run Sudo mkdir -p /home/pi/.config/autostart as i kept getting a message:
mkdir: cannot create directory '/home/pi': permission denied
then i ran nano /home/pi/.config/autostart/plexmediaplayer.desktop and added in the lines to run Plex Media Player
I then went back to the non superuser user name, that i log in the Pi with, and change to the boot/Auto Login option.
Rebooted the Pi and it only boots to the desktop, not Plex.
