Hi, all! I'm working with Tim Grossnickle, race director for the Good Life Games senior races in March, with marketing and promotion. Lots of great things this year, and the two-page flyer/application is attached.
This year, we will have certified 5K and 10K courses (certified by someone who certifies 5K and 10K running race courses all over the southeast U.S.) No issues this year with short or long courses; if you're looking to test yourself on a true 5K or 10K course, this would be the place to do it. Flat and fast!
There will be a 40K road race (approximately 40K, give or take). Great course, with a few climbs, not too technical, lots of long straights and nice scenery. There will be two races, run concurrently (one starting perhaps 10 minutes after the other); the first race will be all athletes, male and female, ages 50-59, and the rest will be all athletes, male and female, 60+.
And, this year we have addressed the issues around the toll booth. (Those of you who were there last year know of what I speak) :)
We'll have color-coordinated race numbers, so you'll be able to instantly recognize those people in your age group in the pack. This will prevent confusion, especially if a break develops (if three people get off the front and they're NOT in your age group, you may decide not to chase, for example).
We're also going to have a very nice, first-ever Good Life Games Cycling Team Trophy, to be awarded to the team that has the highest cumulative overall results. I would think this would be a shoe-in for Florida Masters if we come out in force… :)
At any rate, here is what I'd like from all of you:
- If you would, please pass this on to every masters racer you know, regardless of whether or not they're in our club.
- Pass it on to every club with which you may be involved, including local clubs that may not have as much of a racing background as ours. (You never know who may be "lurking" and wanting to race).
- Pass it on to every other racing team you know; the more racers, the better the event.
- Pass it on to touring cyclists, utility cyclists, senior cyclists, any cyclist age 50 and over. The more the merrier!
When you do, all I ask is that you copy me (at least on the club and team emails), so I know which teams have already been contacted.
And, sign up and come race! Even if you're a club member who typically just trains but doesn't race, this is a great event to get your feet wet. Very flat, open time trial course, and a very fast but racer-friendly road race (not a lot of technical issues like hard turns, etc).
Let me know what you think, and if I need to make any changes.
Thanks!
John
