A discussion today with some of Club members led to the suggestion of
a Club Event at Silver Lake (leesburg) on Dec 2-for those going to SR
Games the next weekend this is a VERY similar course to the SR Games
Road Race course and is also where we have done our Club TT events so
I would propose at TT and then hour or so later a road race around
the 3 mile loop. The suggestion was made to hold it on Sunday Dec 2nd
with perhaps a little later start so those with family obligations
might be able to keep everyone happy.

So questions are

1) is anyone interested in an event if so Sat or Sunday and what start
time-I was thinking 11am for TT and maybe 12:30 for RR if on Sunday-
does that work?????/

2) what distances-1 lap is just a tad under 3 miles so easy to do
close to either a 5km TT (1 lap) or 10km (duh-2 laps) Road Race could
follow any format-handicap, or devil takes hindmost(last rider each
laps pulls out for xx laps then last few sprint it out, or straight
Road Race or could even do a couple shorter RR maybe just 2 or 3 laps
each to focus on final effort of a real road race

3) would need at least couple of volunteers to help time and run
things

4) open to all????? -$5.00?? contribution to post event drinks and
snacks

Obviously just in formative stage but date is not far off so first
question is are you in or out and then we can sort out format to keep
the most people happy. So speak up with at least a yea and if you wish
your preferred day, time, format.

Dave, I'm not in any shape to race, but would like attempt it anyway.  I can push myself a bit, and see where I stand in my return to fitness.  Count me in, either day, either event, and any time that works for everyone else.

And, my 18 y.o. son, Joey, is willing to accompany me and help out with timing or whatever.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again; it's been far too long.  :)

Dave,   I trust you are well.

John,  I also trust and hope you are well.

Just so you both know,  I really have not ridden much since June 30th, but have been trying to put in some base mileage recently.  Been off the bike for better than 3-4 months.   With the time change only been able to ride on Sat. and Sun.  At any rate I am up for either day for a ride.  I may not be competitive, but I would really like to attend, ride,  and  visit with everyone.  So count me in for either or both events, but I’m probably more interested in the TT.

Regards,

Arthur

As far as I know, I am still a member as I paid dues for a year - but haven't checked on exactly when that expires.  I am not planning on joining Gearlink at this time.

I am doing Tough Mudder in Sarasota on Saturday, so I would be available on Sunday.

Ok SUNDAY it is-most people didn't mind which day but about 3 of you
specifically asked for Sunday and no one specifically asked for
Saturday so SUNDAY Dec 2 it is.

Now we have to decide on exact format-I gather most would like a TT
and a RR so tell me what distances-bearing in mind one lap is just
under 3 miles around???????

Is 11am start for whatever first event ok or would you prefer
earlier or later???

Dave:

Thanks -

My preferences (noting i am a flexible person) would be -

~ 9 Mile or 15K time trial...

20-30K RR...

11 am would be ok for us west coasters... :-)

Michael-maybe we need to firm up few details although I guess you could do a "teaser" with details to follow?  Sounds like it is definitely Sunday Dec 2 and so far 11am seems to be start time and so far both some distance of both TT and then a RR. Location Silver Lake in Leesburg-just north of 441 behind College and Leesburg airport-park by tennis courts. Cost $5.00 (for food) open to anyone invited by a member-need to RSVP to me so I can plan food, start times etc.  dvi...@gmail.com or to forum thread

Maybe a 10K TT, to coincide with at least one of the races the following weekend at the state senior games?  That way, folks can get a feel for how they'll do in a similar distance.  Two laps would be about 10K, and a good test.

Since the senior games road races will be 20K and 40K, maybe at least 8 laps (approximately 40K).  Just a thought; while I'm not racing or riding much, back when I was competing I always wanted to get in as much mileage as I could if I was traveling a good distance to ride.  :)

I am thinking that this time out, the road race might be better as just a traditional race; that is, do the laps and race for the finish on the final lap.  That way, everyone gets the chance to get the mileage in.  But I'm open to other suggestions (devil take the hindmost, or as my father used to call it, miss and out) as well.
