I have sat back and watched this development for about (4) weeks now pertaining to the secret training rides going on. I say this with tongue in cheek because some do know about these rides. I live in the Villages, ride with people in the Villages and not one of the people felt it was necessary to post or pass on the word that we are doing this ride on this day ? Seems like there is a club within a club. Yesterday there was a training ride in Silver Lake, no matter how hard i look i can't find that popsted any where ? I could have gone, and would have gone had i even knew about it. . We have a sponser who handed over $500.00 dollars this year and has never been contacted or invited to a ride ?

There are rides in the Villages on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sat , what a opportunity to ware your Florida masters kit, yet few do ? You want and need new members this is not the way to do it.

Last season it was agreed upon that the club rides that were made public were to be on Sat. then the next one would be on Sunday. This never happen ? They all fall on a Sat. ?? I 'm guessing this is done so a couple of peoples training routines would not be upset. This system would have givien the people who work on Sat. a chance to ride with the club on Sunday.

This is a club where only a couple of people are doing the work. We have people joining the club and never hear from anyone. This seems to have changed now that tracy is on board (one of the few workers)

When Florida Cycling had there end of season awards a couple of weeks ago why was there only Tracy and Rosie who attended, The year before it was just Cliff and I who attended. The Florida Masters gave out Time Trial Record breaker awards.

By the way i won the State Road Race Championship in my age group (3) weeks ago with the exception of Tracy and Micheal no one took the time to say good job and way to represent the Florida Masters, Never posted on the web page ? Oh by the way i also got a hard earned second place at the State Time Trial Championships in Oct..

So in closing if anyone was even wondering why I resigned as V.P. and B.O.D. these are a few of the reasons that come to mind

This is not the way to run a club from where i sit,

Good luck to you all and continued success with your club

Steve I wasn't going to weigh in on your comments and certainly not publicly  but you caught me at a weak moment so here goes. First as Vice President of the Club it was your responsibility to make things happen. Over the summer Dan our President was ill and undergoing arduous treatment that was also quite time consuming-note he still is. I was up north as I am each year and I pointed out to you, that with the President in a difficult situation, you as Vice President really needed to step up and work to keep things rolling. Exactly what did you do for the Club over the past 6 months? Did you work to arrange any Club activity-meeting, group ride, event, BOD meeting or  Skype call??-did you follow up on any new members who had joined?-do you even know who joined over last 6 months?, do you know where bank account stands?, where uniforms stocks are and whether ordering needs to be considered?  Did you undertake any activity that would help the Club ?  Yes you raced and representing the Club especially with Podium appearances as you did is great but to not do your job for the Club , not show up when finally a Club event is arranged (my notes say your reason was you didn't have time for the Club event as you used up all your free Saturdays going to races) just is not doing the job you volunteered to do and  the special  circumstances demanded you do really well. I also note that the Club results page doesn't show a single result from you so how exactly did you expect the membership to know about all this racing and winning you did? Did Michael fail to post pictures and race reports you sent him? Do you expect the rest of the Club to research your races so we can tell you how well you are doing?? What do you do instead-you became exactly the person you pointed out in you message-you sat back and did nothing, bitched about nobody doing anything (see message above)  and then just walked away-certainly easier to quit than to actually do some of the work you said you would do as VP.

Dear Dave

Your reply was spot on and true on most points, given my work schedule, training schedule and trying to be the very best husband i can be there is very little time for anything else. Not an excuse but the best one i can come up with. It still does not erase some of my valid points.

BTW I posted my race results on Face Book and on the Villages Cycling web page . It appears for whatever reason it went unnoticed.

Steve, the ride at silver lake was not a club ride. a few of us went out there to do something different and Dan did some TT work for the upcoming Games. If we thought you'd be interested we would have invited you. You seldom ride with the group so we don't get a chance to talk about plans with you. This, and most of these types of rides, are not set in stone or planned days in advance, they just pop up as a good idea a day or two before we do them.

This is a club that is spread out geographically and very diverse in cycling experience, ambitions and goals. So, large, inclusive club rides are quit difficult to arrange. I'd suggest you look to get involved in more of the smaller get together rides that include club members and 'future' club members. That, i think, will build club camaraderie and membership. These will combine with the less frequent larger club rides to build a solid foundation for a regional club.

It's not about the work, it's about the fun. It's a club, not a job.

And i take exception to you comments on wearing the Florida Masters kit. You are seldom on the Villages rides so you may not notice but there are always riders with the colors on. And on organized rides away (like 6 gap) we make plans to all wear it.

This may not be the club you want but it's the club we have. You can work with it or you can leave it but if you're looking for unwavering admiration and attention then you may want to get a puppy instead.

Good points, I am still a member and will continue to be a member of the FM . My blog entry was not meant to bash any one person, just making a point and that's what blogs are for, the good along with the bad gets posted a such. I enjoy my rides with you guys and gal's on Thursdays when i can make it. I could do more but as my training is more set up around Time Trial racing , the pack riding does not lend itself to those rides on a TT bike. I was not looking for kudos on my resent  State Championship win but wonder why this was not recognized ? strange indeed. BTW no puppy for me as this would require more time which i do not have . In closing I love cycling , the passion for cycling is flowing through my veins. I try to help everyone with advise and things i have learned along the way and almost 40 years of racing i have learned a few things.

Using a google calendar has been pretty effective for the "We must be Crazy" group here in Eustis.   It might be away for everyone to feel included with the group that has such a wide range of abilities and geographic locations.  It would also avoid unintentional problems created when arranging pickup rides together - the fact is sometime it is like herding cats :)

I will send an invitation to the group for the calendar and we can all post rides. I think we will be amazed at how much is going on and it would be good for our sponors to see the active vibrant nature of the club.  Including some notes about pace, duration and if possible a link for a route map would help make the calendar effective.

Steve I have enjoyed reading your race posts and hope you keep letting us all know about your activities, even if we are not replying.

Hope to see you all at Cindy's art show tonight - we have about 12 Florida Masters going at last count.
