So here's the plan:
- Marketing:
- Attached is the flyer (and other materials listed below). Please blast this flyer out to your respective networks via email, social media, etc. and invite friends, local groups, anyone you know, even non-Hindus. If you have contacts in the Jewish community, African-American community, Cuban community, please reach out to them as well.
- Frieda-please inform your contacts at the Hindu Students Council at UM. Would be nice to have some young people in the crowd.
- Our vigil is listed on www.kashmirexodus1990.com. Please ask people to register here so we can collect emails to communicate with folks and invite them to our events now and in the future.
- The Facebook event page is here. Please share this too!
- Use Hashtags: #KashmirExodus1990 and #Iheartkashmir in your posts so HAF can retweet/repost on our channels. Goal is to get these hashtags trending.
- Press/Media:
- Who is willing to reach out to the local TV stations: ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX affiliates, as well as the Miami Herald and Sun-Sentinel?
- Candles:
- Who can purchase these? You can get plastic/battery candles for cheap on Amazon.
- Materials:
- Palm Cards, fliers, banners, and other materials are all attached to this email. Please use these on social media and print out as many as you'd like. If we decide to print some of these, can someone take the lead on getting them printed?
- Program:
- 1 hour, 6:30-7:30, here is a draft to get us started but defer to Deepak and the team on what you think works best down there.
- 6:30-45 - Opening Prayer & Intro Remarks: Deepak, Taniel, Who else can or should give remarks (no more than 5 mins!)?
- 6:45-7 - Singing of Kashmiri Songs? Reading of Names? We are compiling a list of names of people killed from ikashmir.net, and we can break it down by reading 10-15 names at a time at 2-3x throughout the program so it's not one long reading.
- 7-7:15: KP Story. I think one KP (Deepak-you or whoever you would like to invite that can speak well and tell a compelling story in 10-15min) would be a good highlight. If TV/Press is there this is a good angle for them in their coverage. Media is always looking for a "story" to tell. Let's give them one (or many!).
- 7:15-30: Moment of Silence (good to put this after someone talking), more reading of names, songs, closing Prayer.
Again, that is just a draft program to get the ball rolling so feel free to come up with ideas. But we should finalize the program by Saturday night 5pm.
I'm flying down to West Palm on Saturday landing at 3pm and will drive down to the vigil on Sunday mid-afternoon. I'll make myself available for any day of needs and can pick up people if they need a ride, pick up materials, whatever is needed to get the job done.
I'm looking forward to joining you all for this important, historic commemoration. This Sunday we are all Kashmiri Pandits!
Onward!
