Dear friends in the Dhamma, Our next Dhamma study class will be this Sunday, on November 21th 9:30 - 10:30am.
This Sunday our latest "Jhana introduction course (Level II)" will continue. It will be from 1pm - 2pm. If you missed the start and would like to participate in the next one just send an email to in...@floridabuddhism.org and we will sign you up. The text we will have a closer look at is the "Attadanda-Sutta" from the Sutta-Nipata:
"Violence breeds misery; look at people quarreling. I will relate the emotion agitating me. "Having seen people struggling and contending with each other like fish in a small amount of water, fear entered me. The world is everywhere insecure, every direction is in turmoil; desiring an abode for myself I did not find one uninhabited. When I saw contention as the sole outcome, aversion increased in me; but then I saw an arrow here, difficult to see, set in the heart. Pierced by it, one runs in every direction, but having pulled it out one does not run nor does one sink. http://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/kn/snp/snp.4.15.than.html
===================================== As a summary - Sunday's complete timetable: ===================================== For all of you who do not know about our Sunday's activities this is how our Sunday Dhamma days look like. You can come at any of these activities separately or stay the whole day with us:
=================================== About our Sunday Meditation groups: The meditation tradition is according to the Sri Lankan forest tradition founded by the Most Ven. Matara Sri Nyanarama Thero 's - many of you know him through Ayya Khema, who was his student) and includes Samatha and Vipassana meditation instructions). You can sign up any time so that we know who might want to come: registration form. Please feel free to join our meditation interviews and discussions in the afternoon hours (after 2pm).
=================================== About our Sunday "Uposatha" day: Anyone who is interested in learning about original Buddhist teachings or gaining a deeper understanding of the Dhamma is invited to join us. This day is a great opportunity to meet noble friends (kalyana mitta), learn from each other and devote some time for meditation & study of the Dhamma. Traditionally, in Buddhist countries, such a day is called "Uposatha" day and was observed since the time of the Buddha who recommended a little spiritual "off-time" for his lay disciples. ====================================== A special opportunity for your generous hearts: http://www.firstgiving.com/41678
