The NWS in mobile has issued a hard freeze warning, which is in effect from
11 pm this evening to 9 am cst sunday. A hard freeze watch has also been
issued. This hard freeze watch is in effect from Sunday evening through
Monday morning. The hard freeze watch is no longer in effect.
An arctic high over the north central united states will continue to bring
in much colder air to the north central gulf coast. With mostly clear sky,
very dry air, and light wind, temperature will quickly drop tonight. Lows in
the lower 20s possible over inland portions of the Florida panhandle and
parts of central and southwest Alabama. There is a risk of long duration of
temperature in the low to mid 20s mainly along and north of a line from
crestview to mcintosh to waynesboro.
Precautionary/preparedness actions,
A hard freeze watch means a long duration of temperatures in the middle 20s
or lower are possible. These conditions could be a threat to the lives of
the elderly and homeless. Pets and livestock should also be protected. There
could also be damage to sensitive vegetation, exposed plumbing, and water
based cooling systems of automobiles and stationary engines. Area residents
and agencies are urged to prepare early for these freezing conditions.
A hard freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly
likely. These conditions will be a threat to the lives of the elderly and
homeless who have no heat or are using space heaters without modern safety
features. Pets and livestock should also be protected. There could also be
damage to sensitive vegetation and exposed plumbing, and also to water based
cooling systems of automobiles and stationary engines. Area residents and
agencies are urged to make final preparations for these freezing conditions
including checks on the elderly and provisions for the homeless.
