The frigid airmass will continue through at least mid-week. Temperatures are
forecast to bottom out in the lower to mid 20s early Tuesday morning with
long durations of sub-freezing temperatures expected. Slightly warmer
temperatures are forecast along the st. Johns river basin. Northwest winds
of 5 mph will drop wind chill indices into the upper teens.

The NWS in mobile has upgraded the hard freeze watch to a hard freeze
warning, which is in effect from 8 pm this evening to 9 am cst Tuesday.

Temperatures will fall below freezing early this evening and drop into the
mid to upper teens for most inland areas after midnight tonight, except
along the immediate coast where temperatures will range from the mid to
upper 20s.
Precautionary/preparedness actions,
A hard freeze warning means that temperatures are expected to drop below 26
degrees for more than 5 hours. These conditions will be a threat to the
lives of the elderly and homeless who have no heat or are using space
heaters without modern safety features. Pets and livestock should also be
protected. There could also be damage to sensitive vegetation and exposed
plumbing, and also to water based cooling systems of automobiles and
stationary engines. Area residents and agencies are urged to make final
preparations for these freezing conditions including checks on the elderly
and provisions for the homeless.

The NWS in melbourne has issued a freeze warning, which is in effect from 1
am to 9 am est Tuesday. The freeze warning for this morning is no longer in
effect.
Temperatures across the area are currently climbing above freezing and will
continue to build into the 40s through late morning under sunny skies.
Therefore the freeze warning has been allowed to expire.
Another reinforcing shot of colder air will begin to build down over the
area tonight with below freezing temperatures expected once again. A freeze
warning has been issued for all of east central Florida for tonight.

Remember to take necessary precautions to protect sensitive vegetation.
Bring pets and potted plants indoors. Check on your elderly neighbors to
make sure their heat is working. House and apartment fires pose a real
danger during Florida cold air outbreaks. Remember to keep flammable
material such as clothing or newspapers away from portable heaters. Make
sure that smoke detectors are working properly before going to sleep.
