REMINDER: Source Articles Due

Welcome to the 2026–2027 Service Year!
As we begin another exciting year for the Sons of The American Legion, it's time to start filling the pages of The Source with the stories, ideas, and accomplishments that make our Detachment successful.
The first edition of the new Service Year will be published on August 1, 2026, and articles are due by July 15, 2026.
I encourage all Area Vice Commanders and District Commanders to submit an introductory article. Whether you're newly elected or returning to your position, this is an excellent opportunity to introduce (or reintroduce) yourself to the members of your area or district, share your goals for the year, encourage squadrons to invite you to their meetings and events, and remind them that you're available whenever they need assistance.
Likewise, I encourage all Committee and Commission Chairmen to submit an article introducing themselves, outlining their goals and priorities for the year, and explaining how they can assist our squadrons. Helping members understand what each committee does - and who to contact - strengthens communication throughout the Detachment.
As always, article submissions from The American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary are welcomed and encouraged. We are one American Legion Family, and we'd love to share the outstanding work taking place throughout our organization.
Finally, I encourage every squadron to make The Source part of your regular communication efforts. Tell us about your upcoming events, community service projects, membership successes, youth programs, veterans initiatives, fundraising activities, special recognitions, or anything noteworthy that your squadron - or one of its members - has accomplished. If it's something you're proud of, chances are the rest of the Detachment would enjoy reading about it too.
Detachment Commander Nigbor has challenged us to focus on G.O.A.L.S. this year. One of the simplest ways we can help achieve those goals is through communication. By regularly sharing your stories, successes, and ideas through The Source, you help create opportunities for other squadrons to learn from one another, inspire action, develop leadership, support one another, and ultimately contribute to the continued growth of our Detachment.
I look forward to reading about all the great things you'll accomplish during the 2026–2027 Service Year. Let's start the year strong - and keep the stories flowing!
